Finland is a world leader in cleantech due to developing efficient energy solutions and alternative energy sources to deal with its harsh climate without fossil fuels. While Finland has faced environmental problems in the past like water pollution, long-term public-private collaboration has succeeded in protecting nature and building expertise in solving such issues. Despite its small economy, Finland invests heavily in cleantech and its share of the global cleantech market exceeds its share of global GDP. Key Finnish cleantech areas include energy/material efficiency, bioenergy/biofuels, water treatment/purification, and the built environment.

clean here
Finland is rich in natural resources, such as forests, lakes
and minerals. In the past we have had problems,
including water pollution and low air quality.
With persistent long-term efforts and public-private-
sector collaboration we have succeeded in protecting our
nature – and building cutting-edge expertise in solving
environmental problems.
5. We invest heavily in
cleantech
Despite its small size as a country, Finland is
a cleantech superpower.
Finland’s share of the global GDP is
approximately 0.4 %, but our share of the
global cleantech market is over 1 %.
More than 1/3 of Finnish public R&D
investments are made in cleantech.
