• Still, with the exception of a few notable firms
like Amazon and Google, Michael Chui, a partner at the
McKinsey Global Institute said many companies have not
benefited as much as expected from big data's insights, in large
part because there are not enough people with the deep
analytical skills needed to mine the data.
– Because of this, Chui stands by a 2011 report from McKinsey predicting
there could be a shortage of between 140,000 and 190,000 of these
workers by 2018, as industries well beyond tech look for workers who
can help them improve their companies by utilizing information gleaned
from big data.
– McKinsey's Chui said future data scientists also need to be skilled in
statistics, and to be able to tell stories with data, to make it
understandable to a variety of people.

5. LinkedIn's head of data recruiting, Sherry Shah, describes the job
market for these candidates as being "very hot right now" as the data
field is "very sexy.”
"So its superhard to find the right talent," she said.
Shah said while 80 to 90 percent have a computer science background,
the company also looks for employees in industries like biomedical or
political science.

beginning. Srikanth Velamakanni, the Bangalore-based
cofounder and CEO of CA headquartered Fractal Analytics states:
“In the next few years, the size of the analytics market will evolve
to at least one-thirds of the global IT market from the current
one-tenths”
• The demand for Analytics skill is going up steadily but there is a
huge deficit on the supply side. This is happening globally and is
not restricted to any part of geography. In spite of Big Data
Analytics being a ‘Hot’ job, there is still a large number of unfilled
jobs across the globe due to shortage of required skill. A
McKinsey Global Institute study states that the US will face a
shortage of about 190,000 data scientists and 1.5 million

11. Impact of U.S. plans to change high-skilled visas
“It is unclear at this point. However, if the proposals for changes at the
H1-B visa norms (happen), the industry will surely have an impact,”
said S Gopalakrishnan, a co-founder and former chairman of Infosys.
Anticipating a more protectionist U.S. technology visa programme
under a Donald Trump administration, India's $150 billion IT services
sector will speed up acquisitions in the United States and recruit more

Rao, noting a shift from the traditional model of recruiting mainly

Indian Express Newspaper has announced that Infosys has a negative
recruitment growth in 2016-17 for the first time in last 33 years.
