Through time
One of the reasons standardization is so compelling
for historians and social scientists is its
multidisciplinary characteristics: politics, business &
economics, science & technology, labor, and culture &
ideas are inextricably linked through standardization.
The existing historical literature on standards and
standardization touches each of these distinct realms.
The literature also demonstrates how a
multidisciplinary approach that combines insights
from all of these realms facilitates a richer
understanding of standards and standardization.

H2020 and FP7 for Security
Under its wider R&D budget for FP7, EU invested 1.4 billion EUR
in Security research. Investing in Security Research for the
benefit of European citizens, CI, SMEs and Industry.
The overall EU security policy
framework covers many different
sectors, which require coordination
among various communities.
In this respect, policy development and
implementation rely on effective
interactions among policy-makers,
research, industry and operational
actors (first responders , civil protection
units, police forces etc) in the EU
Member States.
Community of Users for Secure, Safe,
and Resilient Societies connects and
bridges the existing user's communities.
8. CRISP Final Conference – 16 March 2017 6th CoU Meeting, Brussels
H2020 and FP7 for Security
Security is at the core of EU policies and the EU's Horizon
2020 in its “Secure Societies" pillar includes 8 objectives:
• fight crime, illegal trafficking and terrorism, • protect and improve the resilience of
critical infrastructures, supply chains and transport modes, • strengthen security through
border management, • improve cyber security, • increase Europe’s resilience to crises and
disasters, • ensure privacy and freedom, while enhancing the legal and ethical aspects to
security, risk and management, • enhance standardisation and
interoperability of systems, • support the Union’s external security policies, through conflict
prevention and peace building
Many of the Security research projects
supported by H2020 are aiming to play a
central role in informing citizens and
practitioners about the diversity,
creativity and determination of the EU's
security research effort.

CRISP / Challenges - Food for Thoughts
CRISP certification would help meet the need
of the market
Security market wants an integrate certification
scheme which will include an holistic point of
view regarding the evaluation and the
assessment in respect with the already
established schemes.
Does the CRISP evaluation and certification
scheme with STEFi methodology satisfies such
a need ?
12. CRISP Final Conference – 16 March 2017 6th CoU Meeting, Brussels
CRISP proposed scheme would help meet the
needs of specific stakeholders
CRISP evaluation and certification scheme with STEFi
methodology involves the whole logistic chain of the
relative stakeholders.
Moreover the engagement of scientists/experts/auditors
from different disciplines, imparts added value and
enhances the understanding of key issues from one
discipline to other.

Expectations for the CRISP scheme
Contribute to the security society as a success story.
To be a pan-European security certification scheme
which will provide added value to the European market
and its stakeholders, assurance and confidence to
citizens and to Member States.
Contribute to the establishment of a new generation of
Auditors

Future viability of the CRISP project
The recognition of the project as a success story by the
implementation bodies.
The motivation and the engagement of stakeholders, key
players.
Teaching in Higher Education the fundamental framework of the
CRISP certification scheme/organisation etc.
Sharing the implementation experiences among NSBs and
ESOs
The knowledge and systematic monitoring of the potential
competitive or existing schemes in global level. The integration
and the adoption of best practices/achievements.
The adoption of continuous improvement culture.

The journey goes on
As you set out for Ithaka hope the voyage is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery. Hope the voyage is a
long one. Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey. Wise
as you will have become, so full of experience, you will
have understood by then what these Ithakas mean. – C.
