Pikes Peak was formed by a dome of molten rock being pushed up from underground. Over 300 million years, erosion from glaciers and frost wedging carved and shaped Pikes Peak into the prominent peak seen today, exposing the pink potassium feldspar that gives Pikes Peak its distinctive color.
