1. As you enter the third week of the Making Every Bite Count challenge and continue to
increase your child’s fruit and vegetable intake, here are some tips to help your child try
new types.
Tips to Introduce New Fruits and Vegetables:
Make smoothies with both fruits and vegetables.
o Kids love smoothies and you can hide spinach, kale, or other fruits your child
hasn’t tried.
Use hummus, salsa, or a yogurt based dip for carrots, cucumbers, celery, peppers,
tomatoes, or broccoli.
o These are healthier dip options than ranch and may be helpful in getting kids
to try new vegetables or eat vegetables they may not enjoy.
Use cookie cutters to make fun shapes such as watermelon stars or strawberry
hearts.
Hide vegetables in red sauces and under the cheese of pizza.
Let your child see you eating the food you are introducing
o This will make them more willing to try it themselves
Have your kids help you prepare the food your making.
o They will be more willing to try something they created with you
As you continue to help your child reach their individual goal, try using some of these tips
to get them to try new foods! The more fruits and vegetables they enjoy eating, the easier it
will be for you to help them increase the amount that they eat.
