2. HISTORY
Mr. Subhash Palekar studied natural system and verified natural processes of the
forest on his farm for six year, since 1989 to 1995. There were about 154 research
projects during these six years of research work. After six years of verified research
work, he got the package of technique about Zero Budget Natural Farming; which he
is giving to the farmers throughout India. He (Krishi ka Rishi) also awarded by many
awards some are:
BASAVA SHRI AWARD (2005)
GOPAL GAURAV AWARD (2007)
PADMA SHRI (2016)
3. DEFINITION
Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) or holistic agriculture is a method of agriculture
that counters the commercial expenditure and things required for the growth of plant
are present around the root zone.
4. SOME CONCEPTS OF ZBNF
• An approach towards sustainability
• Expense-free farming
• Farming up to 30 acres with one native cow
• Farming with minimum electricity and water consumption
• Producing quality, poison-free food
• Agriculture without external input
• Techniques of multi-crop cultivation for higher net income
• Reducing external labor requirement
• Farming in tune with nature
• Saving the farmers from suiciding themselves and leaving behind their families as
beggars.

6. RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
1. To study the feasibility of Zero Budget Natural Farming
2. To study the impact on chemical industries and farmers
3. To make a comparative study of agriculture based on fertilizers and plant
protection
4. To study that are the farmers really get benefitted from this Zero Budget

8. RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS
Working Hypothesis – Long- term natural farming would improve soil quality and
also ZNBF affects farmer taking less loans for farming.
Null Hypothesis –(H0) Long- term natural farming would improve soil quality and
ZBNF does not affect farmer taking less loans for farming
Alternative Hypothesis –(H1) Long- term natural farming would improve soil
quality and ZBNF affects farmer taking less loans for farming
9. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
We visited the social sites to get the information about the “Zero Budget Natural
Farming” and we have also downloaded the research projects, papers and pdf related to
the ZBNF. We read carefully observe everything like all the pros and cons and then
applied here according to our objectives of this research project.
10. KEY FINDINGS
An appraisal of the “Zero Budget Natural Farming” so far clearly points to its
eminent feasibility for different agro climatic conditions, for different crops and
different category of farmers. It has found favor with the farming community because
it perfectly blends with their life style which is dependent on land, vegetation and
livestock. However, as regards its ability to provide sustainable returns year after
year, it needs to be monitored over a period of time. The intended prospective study
will focus on the sustainability aspects of this method of farming so that definitive
conclusions can be drawn before advocating it to other prospective farmers.

vegetables you will save on production costs: should be measured on five-
point scale Agree/Disagree And the second statement: Saving on production
costs is: (should be measured on five-point scale Important/Unimportant).
