Der Versuch eine fast schon verschollene Disziplin wiederzubeleben. In den 1980ern gestartet kam ab den 00ern nichts mehr rum an Forschung oder Praxis. Schade eigentlich.

original behavior“ (Frasca 2001)

Information retrieval and information integration :
The problem solver needs a model adequately
representing the system and the goal state to aim
at. Therefore she or he has to systematically
generate, gather, and integrate information to
adjust this model to the system

13. Theorycrafting
◦ Komposition aus Game Theory und Starcraft
◦ Theorycraft is the attempt to mathematically
analyze game mechanics in order to gain a better
understanding of the inner workings of the game
◦ Setzt ein explizites Modell des Spiels voraus!
SAGSAGA Netzwerktreffen; 22.03.2013
15. Theorycrafting Pitfalls
◦ Random factors may not be considered. This often
results in overly naive models and inaccurate
formulae and calculations.
◦ If a given theory does not involve any idea of
probability, then the model is unreliable due to its
overly simplistic approach.
◦ Overly linear theories are not often reflective of the
published game mechanics. This can lead to poor
understanding and false assumptions.

16. Theorycrafting Strategien
◦ Theories are concepts, not formulae. - Just because
something specific happens when you press a
particular button, doesn't mean that its tied directly
to the button. Something is happening. Find out
what it is.
◦ Experience is verifiability. Test everything, just a
little… - Never assume that a general theory applies
to everything in the game.

17. Eine Annäherung an die Wahrheit ist
möglich... sicheres Wissen ist uns
versagt. Unser Wissen ist ein kritisches
Raten; ein Netz von Hypothesen; ein
Gewebe von Vermutungen.
Wann immer wir nämlich glauben, die
Lösung eines Problems gefunden zu
haben sollten wir unsere Lösung nicht
verteidigen, sondern mit allen Mitteln
versuchen sie selbst umzustoßen.
