etiquette, propriety, social grace, to educate, discipline, the
humanities, etc.” sense of proportion and knowledge of their rightful
place in the order of things, the absence of which indicates injustice

By retracing our life, we start with understanding
our basic nature as a human being - having
inherent powers and their potentialities to be
developed.



In our relationship regarding our Education – we
are to encounter, i.e. assisted by our educators with what is referred to as, “knowledge”.



Yet, we are born helpless and have to be cared,
nurtured, to be inculcated with discipline, taught and
developed by a Murabbi’ (EDUCATOR) – the first of
whom are our PARENTS.

“He (Allah) it is who has sent unto the unlettered people a messenger
from among themselves, to convey unto them His messages, and to
cause them to grow in purity, and to impart unto them the divine writ
(AL-KITAB) as well as wisdom (AL-HIKMAH) - whereas before that they
were indeed, most obviously, lost in error.”
(Qur’an: Juma’ah: 62: 2)

“Educate (nurture) your children upon three things:
[1] To Love your Prophet (s.a.w.),
[2] And to love the Family members of his household (Aali
Muhammad),
[3] and (learn) to recite Al-Qur’an.”

WHAT ARE THESE AND HOW TO INCULCATE. ?


“Certainly did Allah confer [great] favour upon the
believers when He sent among them a Messenger
from themselves, reciting to them His verses and
purifying them and teaching them the Book and
wisdom, although they had been before in
manifest error.”
(Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 164)


“There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among
yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned
over you and to the believers is kind and merciful.”
(Qur’an: Taubat: 9: 128)


“Say, [O Muhammad], "O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger
of Allah to you all, [from Him] to whom belongs the dominion of
the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He
gives life and causes death."
So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered prophet,
who believes in Allah and His words, and follow him that you
may be guided..”
(Qur’an: A’-raf: 7: 158)


“[And as for thee,] O Prophet - behold, We have sent thee as
a witness [to the truth], and as a herald of glad tidings and a
warner, and as one who summons [all men] to Allah by His
leave, and as a light-giving beacon.”
(Qur’an: Ahzab: 33: 45-46)


“And [so,] convey to the believers the glad tiding that a great bounty
from Allah awaits them; and defer not to [the likes and dislikes of] the
deniers of the truth and the hypocrites, and disregard their hurtful talk,
and place thy trust in Allah: for none is as worthy of trust as Allah.”
(Qur’an: Ahzab: 33: 47-48)

“CALL THOU (all mankind] unto thy Sustainer's path with wisdom and
goodly exhortation, and argue with them in the most kindly mannerfor, behold, thy Sustainer knows best as to who strays from His path,
and best knows He as to who are the right-guided.”
(Qur’an: An-Nahlu: 16: 125)

“Behold! verily on the (AWLIYA’) friends of Allah
there is no fear, nor shall they grieve”
(Qur’an: Yunus: 10: 62)

‘Recognition’ means discovering the proper place in relation to what is
recognized; and acknowledgement means concomitant action ( ‘amal)
resulting from discovering the proper place in relation to what is recognized.
Recognition alone without acknowledgement is mere arrogance; for it is
the ’haqq’ of recognition to be acknowledged.
Acknowledgement alone without recognition is mere ignorance; for it is the
‘haqq’ of acknowledgement to actualize recognition.
Either one by itself is ’batil’, for in Islam there is no worthwhile knowledge
without action accompanying it, nor worthwhile action without knowledge
guiding it. The just man is he who effects such Adab unto his self, resulting in
his being a good man.”


TO PROCEED FROM PREVIOUS LESSON ...


“Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are
forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You
see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from
Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace
of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their
description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots
and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks,
delighting the sowers - so that Allah may enrage by them the
disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous
deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.”
(Qur’an: Fath: 48: 29)

“And thus have We willed you to be a community of the middle way
(ummatan wasotan) [i.e. justly balanced], so that [with your lives] you
might bear witness to the truth before all mankind ( shuhadaa-a ‘alannaas) , and the Messenger as a witness over you.“
(Qur’an: al- Baqarah: 2:143)

“Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and
those of knowledge - [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice (BIL-QISTw).
There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.“
(Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3:18)


“And say: "Work (righteousness): soon will Allah observe your work, and
His Messenger and the Believers: soon will ye be brought back to the
knower of what is hidden and what is open: then will He show you the
truth of all that ye did."
(Qur’an: Taubah: 9: 105)


Say: "What could most weightily bear witness to the truth?"
Say: “Allah is witness between me and you; and this Qur’an
has been revealed unto me so that on the strength thereof I
might warn you and all whom it may reach." Could you in
truth bear witness that there are other deities side by side
with Allah? Say: "I bear no [such] witness!" Say: "He is the
One God; and, behold, far be it from me to ascribe divinity,
as, you do, to aught beside Him!“
(Qur’an: An-’am: 6: 19)


“Say [O Prophet]: "I am but a mortal man like all of you. It has been
revealed unto me that your God is the One and Only God. Hence, whoever
looks forward [with hope and awe] to meeting his Sustainer [on Judgment
Day], let him do righteous deeds, and let him not ascribe unto anyone or
anything a share in the worship due to his Sustainer!“
(Qur’an: Kahfi: 18: 110)

 How have we regarded our life? In fact many have become
‘enslaved’ (by others) without them realizing it. Whereas we are
supposed to be the slave of Allah s.w.t.
 We say we are Muslims, yet what do we mean by “ I bear
witness ..”? Being a witness to what? Towards whom?
 And how do we effectively become truly a witness? Have we really
been one? Or are we promoting other ‘brands ’ instead?
 Other ‘models’ are being introduced by people, while the Muslims
simply are complacent about making others to know about our
Prophet s.a.w. who was sent for them too.


 We should be talking to others about him; express appreciation by
mentioning him and his contributions towards betterment of
mankind; his nobility, amazing miracles, prophecies about him and
other outstanding characteristics; his love and concern for every
humanity; etc. – just so that those who do not know him may
become interested to want to know.
 Yes, striving to being a true and sincere Muslim is to belong to
those who will be put to trials and tribulations ... “ even though the
unbelievers detest it.”


“Among the believers are men who have [always] been true to what
they have vowed before Allah: Of them some have fulfilled their
obligations (with their lives), and some of them are still waiting (for its
fulfillment) without having changed [their resolve] in the least.”
(Qur’an: al-Ahzab: 33: 23)


“But for the Grace of Allah to thee and his Mercy, a party
of them would certainly have plotted to lead thee astray.
But (in fact) they will only Lead their own souls astray, and
to thee they can do no harm in the least. For Allah hath
sent down to thee the Book and wisdom and taught thee
what thou knew not (before): And great is the Grace of
Allah unto thee.”
(Qur’an: An-Nisa’: 4: 113)


“And, indeed, in time will thy (Lord) Sustainer grant thee
[what thy heart desires], and thou shalt be well-pleased.”
(Qur’an: Dhuha: 93: 4)


“And [have We not] raised you high the esteem and dignity
(which you are held)?”
(Qur’an: Ash-sharh: 94: 4)


“Indeed, Allah confers blessing (salutations) upon the
Prophet, and His angels salutes [him too and ask Allah to
bless him]. O you who have believed, salute him [also] and
ask Allah to confer blessing upon him [worthy of his
station] and [to grant him] peace.”
(Qur’an: Ahzab: 33: 56)

“He (Allah) it is who bestows His blessings upon you, with
His angels [echoing Him], so that He might take you out of
the depths of darkness into the light. And, indeed, a
dispenser of grace is He unto the believers.”
(Qur’an: Ahzab: 33: 43)


“O you who have attained to faith! Do not raise your voices above the voice of
the Prophet, and neither speak loudly to him, as you would speak loudly to one
another, lest all your [good] deeds come to nought without your perceiving it.”
(Qur’an: Hujurat: 49: 2)


“Behold, they who lower their voices in the presence of Allah’s Messenger it is they whose hearts Allah has tested [and opened] to consciousness of
Himself (TAQWA); [and] theirs shall be forgiveness and a reward supreme.”
(Qur’an: Hujurat: 49: 3)


“Do not make [your] calling of the Messenger among yourselves as the call of
one of you to another. Already Allah knows those of you who surreptitiously slip
away (concealed by others with excuses). So let those beware who dissent from
the Prophet's order, lest fitnah strike them or a painful punishment.”
(Qur’an: Nur: 24: 63)

 Amongst the commandments of Allah s.w.t. in the Qur’an, “giving
Solawat and Salam” is unique and indeed very special.
 We do not claim to fully know the wisdom and benefit of it, but
certainly this invoking Allah’s blessing upon Prophet Muhammad
s.a.w. has considerable benefits for us when Allah commands us.
 And there are many Ahadith regarding it’s benefits (Fadhaa-il).


 Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said:

“Say the ‘Solawat’ (invocation of Allah’s blessing for me as
Allah commands) for your ‘Solawat’ shall be
Zakah (a purification and spiritual growth)
for your own selves.”
(Hadith reported by Ibn Mardaweh in, Al-Jami’)


“Whosoever say ‘solawat ’ upon me once,
Allah will say ‘solawat ’ upon him ten times.”
(Hadith reported by Muslim)



“Verily Allah, Most Exalted, has angels who are commanded to
roam and observe the people on earth. They will convey to me all
the ‘salams ’ from people of my community.”
(Hadith reported by Ahmad, An-Nasa-i, and Ad-Darimiy )



“Foremost to me amongst the people on Judgement Day
will be those who conveyed much ‘Solawat ’ to me
(while they were in this world).”
(Hadith reported by Tirmidzi)



The Prophet s.a.w. said: “Shall I inform you who is miserly
person?”, they (companions) replied : “Certainly, O Messenger of
Allah.”
He (the Prophet s.a.w.) then said:
“Whoever, whenever my name is mentioned in his presence, yet do
not invoke ‘Solawat ’ upon me, he is the miserly person.”


“Verily, the supplication (DU’A - you ask from Allah)
will be left dangling between the heaven and the earth,
and will not be raised (towards Allah), until you
Invoke with it SOLAWAT upon your Prophet.”.”


 A Du’a (incorporating intention) :


 A Du’a (incorporating intention) :

"O Allah! I make the intention to invoke blessings on the Prophet,
may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him, our master
Muhammad, may Your blessings and peace be upon him; in his love
and in my yearning for him and with the respect due to him as he
merits it. Accept it from me by Your Grace and Kindness and remove
the veil of negligence from my heart and make me among one of
Your righteous servants."


“Without doubt, among men, the nearest of kin to Abraham,
are those who follow him, as are also this Prophet
(Muhammad) and those who believe: And Allah is the
Protector of those who have faith.”
(Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 68)


“Do not say the ‘Solawat’. (upon me) which is Batra ’ (incomplete)”

(Batra’ is when) You said: ‘O Allah! (we ask Your) Blessings be upon
Muhammad’ and then you stop. But instead you should say: ‘O Allah!
(we ask Your) Blessings be upon Muhammad and upon the family of
Muhammad”

just as You have blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim, for You
are the Praiseworthy, the Mighty!.
And sanctify upon Muhammad, and upon the family of
Muhammad, just as You have sanctified Ibrahim and the family of
Ibrahim, for You are the Praiseworthy, the Mighty!“
(Hadith by Bukhary and Muslim)


 Solawat in Du’a when entering the mosque:

‘I seek refuge with Allah, The Supreme and with His Noble Countenance
(Face), and His eternal authority from the accursed satan. In the Name of
Allah, and prayers (salutations) and peace be upon the Messenger
of Allah. O Allah, open the gates of Your mercy for me.’

 Solawat in Du’a when leaving the mosque:

‘‘In the name of Allah, and prayers (salutations) and peace be upon
the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You from Your favours
(bestowals). O Allah, guard me from the accursed satan.’

‘‘O Allah, Owner of this perfect call (Adzan) and Owner of
this prayer (Swolah) which is to be performed, bestow upon
Muhammad AL-WASEELAH (the right to intercession) and
AL-FADEELAH (the highest rank above all creation) and
send him upon a praised platform (MAQOM ALMAHMUDAH) which You have promised him. Verily, You
never fail in Your promise.’

"Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have

You laid upon those before us.
Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no
ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have
mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory
over the disbelieving people."


“O Allah, make my speech be guidance, inspire me with
reverential fear, give me success in that which is most
pure, and employ me in what is most pleasing to Thee!
O Allah, let me tread the most exemplary path and make
me live and die in Thy creed!
O Allah, bless Muhammad and his Household, give me to
enjoy moderation, make me into one of the people of
right behaviour, the proofs of right conduct, and the
servants of righteousness,"


O Allah! Make faith (iiman) dear to us and beautify it in our hearts
and make disbelief (Kufr), sinning (Fusuq) and rebelliousness (`isyan)
hateful to us, and make us among the rightly guided ( Raa-shi-duun).


O Allah! Allow us to die as Muslims, live as Muslims
and join us with the ranks of the righteous ones,
without tasting humiliation or turmoil.


‘And (may Allah send) salutations and prayers upon Muhammad
and upon the household and companions of Muhammad
(the pure ones of his family and all the loyal followers).


“Glory to thy Lord the Lord, of Honour and Power!
(He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)!
And Peace on the Messengers!
And praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds.”
