FOCUS ON THE BIG PICTURE – NOT NUMBERS
Most of the companies’ strategic planning process keep on dealing with the red oceans
and drive the companies to compete within the existing market space. Typical strategic
plan will starts with the current industry conditions and the competitive situation. The
companies will then brainstorm and think on how increase market share, capture new
segments, lowering the cost and later on craft their objectives and strategy.
Formulating this strategic plan will always make them preparing documents with data in
which less useful or valuable to the company. There is no unified and clear direction to
make the company different and it will still compete again in the same market. So the
strategies are merely tactics in the red oceans, without proper effective real strategies.
The way to overcome this is to think out of the box and focus on the big picture. To think
out of the box starts from drawing the strategy canvas. This canvas gets away from
numbers and data but conceptually focus on their main intention on the big picture.
