To understand the concepts of Farm
Mechanization.
2
To examine the problems of Farm
Mechanization.
3
To explore some possible strategies for
promoting Farm Mechanization.
4. What is Farm Mechanization…?
The process of developing agricultural
machines and substituting this machine
power for human and animal power in
agricultural production practices is farm
mechanization.
5. Mechanization of farms means the use of
machines for conducting agricultural operations,
replacing the traditional methods which involve
human and animal labour.
Farm mechanization implies the use of mechanical
technology in the varied farming operations like
sowing, harvesting, threshing, levelling, watering,
spraying, weeding etc.
6. SOURCESOFFARMPOWER
There are different sources of farm power available
in India which are classified as
1. Human power
2. Animal power
3. Mechanical power (Tractors + Power tillers + Oil
engines)
4. Electrical power
7. HUMAN POWER
Human power is the main source for operating
small implements and tools at the farm.

BENEFITS OF FARM MECHANIZATION
1. Timeliness of operation
2. Improvement of work environment.
3. Enhancement of safety
4. Reduction of drudgery of labour
5. Reduction of loss of crops and food products
6. Increased productivity of land
7. Increased economic return to farmer
8 .Improved dignity of farmer
9. Progress and prosperity in rural areas
13. 1. Small size and scattered land holdings
2. Financial inability of the small farmers
3. Lack of proper knowledge about farm
machineries
4. Lack of repair and replacement facilities
especially in the remote rural areas.
5. Limited availability of sale outlets.
6. Lack of accessibility for procurement,
repair and maintenance.
14. AIM OF FARM MECHANIZATION
1.To improve quality of products.
2.To remove farm drudgery.
3.To improve livehood of farmer .
4.To increase the economy of country .
5.Provision of employment opportunities .
6.To improve irrigation facilities.
7.With the support of machines farmer can do
his work better and quicker.
15. strategy
1.Establishment of farm machinery
bank for easy supply to farmers.
2.Increasing average power supply to
agriculture from 1.5 kW/ha in 2010 to
2.5 kW/ha by 2025.
3.Mechanization of all farmers in all
regions of the country especially the
rain fed areas.
16. 4.Promotion and strengthening of
agricultural mechanization through
training, testing and demonstration.
5.Gender Friendly Equipment for
Women.
6.Establishing hi-tech and high
product equipment
