marketplace
Motivation
Motivation is related to values, preferences and goals
There are many challenges that face people dealing with diverse
cultures. And that’s require CQ , perseverance and drive to understand
different cultures
Persistence
Determination to learn defines learning as a critical CQ development
Persistence to learn contributes to surpass obstacles
More informational knowledge are not enough to accept other cultures
INFORMATIONAL KNOWLEDGE
A global worker needs self-assurance, devotion and perseverance to
involve new cultures such as values that associate identities , goals and
motivation.
Motivation
creates the action
Values
are produced by the individual choice
Individuality
identifies our desires and concentrates the efforts on how to make it
possible
Goals
investigating what we want to accomplish in the future . p64
BEHAVIORAL BASIS OF CQ
Defines the appropriate behaviors occurring diverse cultures and lead
to recognize behavioral homonyms such us :
Learn how to display right behaviors in the presence of different
cultures
understand behavioral homonyms statuses and how to distinguish
them
BEHAVIORAL CULTURAL NTELLIGENCE
increases our skills to observe, recognize, and act suitably in
intercultural meetings. Someone with effective behavioral CQ has great
capacities to express him-self both orally and physically (body
language) .
Persons with high social communication can recognize indirect cultural
symbols from others and can adapt themselves to communicate with
people from other cultures in a relaxed manner.
It’s essential for the first time to understand the culture- specific
behaviors that vary in sense and terminologies across cultures
BEHAVIORAL HOMONYMS
Confusing are behavioral homonyms. These are behaviors
that sound and look alike, but have very different and
sometimes opposite meanings.
Example : In the Middle East by tribes , it’s a tradition to
organize a collective feast on honor of guests and if you
are invited you must accept invitation and eat well. If you
don’t accept or don’t eat well, hosts can be offended
UNDERSTAND CULTURE SPECIFIC BEHAVIORS
Cultural habits have universal behaviors and specific meanings in :
2. Conversing and communicating
3. Acting
4. Treating
5. Eating and drinking
6. Traveling
7. Trading
CULTURE SPECIFIC BEHAVIORS
1- intimate contacts such as hand- shakes, kissing or hugs
2- laws such as abortion rights, treatment of gender etc.
3- conversational styles
4- Tones quality, vocalization, and verbal contestants p. 89
CULTURE INTERACTIONS
Mechanisms build sympathies and alertness
that formulate CQ behavior such us :
Informational
Cultural awareness
Cultural sensitivity
DIVERSITY MANAGEMENT (DM)
DM is a wide-ranging approach of managerial structure that
recognize the cultural differences between groups of employees
and the differences of payments according hierarchy as
stipulated in the organizational policies
Questions to be considered
How successful cultural issues did you accomplished ?
Are you able to adapt your verbal and non-verbal behaviors to
social norms in presence of varied cultures ?
How is your level of your behavioral CQ ?
Working effectively in culturally diverse work place requests :
Knowledge in definitions of management diversity
Trainings in diversity management
UNDERSTAND TODAY TRENDS IN THE GLOBAL MARKET
It’s imperative to understand the strategies
of effective global duties such as :
New global markets beyond borders related
food and services
Advanced technologies in transportation and
communication
Shifting & restructuring the world’s working
populations
WORKING EFFECTIVELY IN CULTURALLY DIVERSE WORK
PLACE
Understanding definitions of management
diversity and identifying trainings in diversity
management
Duties are dispatched according to the result
of the redistribution of the working
population around the globe. And CQ is
reported as gain that increases business
productivity and professionalism’s
Most corporations involve themselves in the
global market. Most of people want to join
global work assignment and frequently need
CQ to adapt themselves to another culture.
TYPES OF GLOBAL ASSIGNMENT
Getting a work abroad due to lack of local position related
capacities in a specific area
Spreading knowledge in creation and processes
Developing international executives with a global approach
Developing strategic alliances and multi-cultural
coordination
INFLUENCES OF GLOBAL ASSIGNMENT
Installing an organizational culture across populations
Developing high technology and managerial skills
Increasing opportunities across populations and
decreasing conflicts
GAINS OF CREATING PROFESSIONALS GLOBAL GROUPS
Global groups recognize and affront challenges that improve the quality
of work with global teams
Global Teams are achieving shared goals through CQ that allow them
to understand people’s work tendencies
corporations count today a great number of people with diverse
experiences
Scientists recommend today to increase distinctiveness that create
effective multi-cultural global teams
RISKS OF CULTURAL GENERALISATIONS
Generalizations sometimes kept people back and
make them convinced about their sufficient
knowledge toward culture, and researchers state
that people are generally acting without restrictions
and that CQ (idiosyncratic actions) is not considered
by human general spontaneities .
However high CQ stipulate that individual actions
can be illustrated from cultural shapes . Scientifics
affirm that knowing manners to interact with people
of other cultures is among the successful factors of
communication among global teams.
DEVELOPING HIGH-PERFORMING GLOBAL TEAMS
Globalization develop team goals and the
work with groups work creates useful
criterions and recompense the efforts of the
team’s
USING THE GR X 2 = T FORMULA
Performance illustrates the following formula :
GR X2 = T
G = Goals
R = Roles
R = Rules
T = Trust and commitment
Clear goals define roles for each member of the team who
operate in the right way that respect cultural understanding
of each member group.
HOW TO MEASURE GLOBAL LEADERSHIP ?
It’s essential to understand what global leadership requires
and how to recognize the successful managerial process
Consequently global leadership use the same tactic of the CQ
that allows to identify the individual inclinations. And leadership
in fact associates relationship and influence of workers in the
shared orientation of management
Furthermore , CQ in global leadership is •
using to create products conceived &
approved by various cultures and
compliant to the global marketplace .
GLOBAL LEADERSHIP PROCESSES
Formulating a global vision
Adjusting global vision to various cultures
Planning , budgeting and scheduling in function of local
organizations
Scheming the local managerial structure
Motivating local organizations
Monitoring and controlling local’s performance
ASSESSING SUCCESS
Leader behavior must be adaptable to different
cultures in all situations and reaching goals depends
on leader attitude toward indigenous culture of his
team work
However researchers state that leaders must
appreciate diversity in the work place and in the
legal system
Furthermore global leaders regulate their leadership
styles to the norms of their employees culture and
leaders must vary their managerial manner
according to workers culture
CONSUMING CULTURES
Docks well states that understand and apply cultural intelligence in the
work place is essential to gain employees trust and defying challenges.
Consequently globalization requests to achieve a cultural strategic
thinking that identify the areas of improvement and improve behaviors.
Furthermore he recommends to follow steps below, such us :
You should know the components of cultural intelligence
You should have some idea of its benefit & challenges
Make sure you understand how the work place and CQ relate when
considering the global market
Understand how to achieve cultural strategic thinking (CST)
VARIETY OF SOLID PRODUCTS CREATES FLEXIBILITY
Changes = Threats and opportunities
Changes that threaten leaders:
Rapid change (e.g. growth of social media;
growth of internet)
Monopolization
Continuous reporting
Time to expand understanding
Doing more with less resources
Neglect of team
Losing touch & followers
CHANGE CAN AFFECT
Professionalism that can lead to frustration
Distinctiveness and affecting budgets
Leadership can affect culture in operating
according time and engagement
Vision can blur the business orientation
Motivation can be challenged by being too tired
Devotion to work can be make in question
Creativity will loose competitiveness
LEARNING INNOVATION IS A PERPETUAL
CHALLENGE
Innovation in education continues to reshape managerial
systems and reforms in function of :
New technologies
Economic collapse
Demographics
Globalization
Distressed environment
Leaders are always looking for practical solutions
in how to deliver better results in lower costs.
Consequently they Want to help public services in
disciplined way that sustain practical innovation projects
and influence policy on public services.
THE ROLE OF COMBINED LEARNING
Accelerate change and achieve successful goals
Technology transform all aspects of our lives
Knowledge is reported increased and doubled in the technology
of communication since the past 10 years and is doubling every
18 months according to the American Society of Training and
Documentation (ASTD) Gonzalez 2004.
Learning at distance and technology facilities in education
beyond borders surpassed the teachers roles
Social networking like Facebook now has 500 million users . And
43% of age 9-13 have a profile on a social networking site. It is
now a raised area that made people close to their ideas and
enable to revolt , like in the Arab world last Summer. Major
organizations now have a website plus Facebook plus Twitter
GLOBALIZATION : COLOSSAL IMPLICATIONS
Strategic alliances (IT & lower-cost producers in the
world market).
Jobs can be quickly transferred from one side of the
world to another.
Consumers and scientists look around the world for
the best.
Competitiveness and high skills at a top
Globalization includes education , mobile students
and online learning
Increasing the understanding of multi-cultural
practices and reformulating cultural values
THE DREAM OF WELL-BEING AROUND THE GLOBE
to learn how to live better and consume less environmental resources
and redevelop the contexts of life." Ezio Manizini, Polytechnics of Milan
Our life has changed by technologic facts like Google, Skype,
Wikipedia, I player etc..
How we buy our consumer goods and how create relationships and
sustain them. It’s seen by researchers as distortion between our real
life and life online . And many people don’t see any variance
what are the most powerful arguments for change
changes in family structure and the sense of instant pleasure
New technology decrease educators roles ?
SCIENCES DENUNCIATE THE MODERNISM IN THE
CONSUMER CULTURE
St Thomas Aquinas showed how society has changed and virtues &
vices changed also. The science confirm that anti-social behavior is
immoral such as :
Temperance = self-restraint
It’s in fact denunciate the inevitable modernism in the consumer
culture, and moderation is seen as a vice.
For example big businesses in the United States spend over a trillion
dollars a year on marketing. This is shows the supremacy of the
market. And if we are living a weak situation It is due to marketing that
control our life and public policy.
However it is reported that our world view shows at least 25% of people
in Western nations as creative minds . And in comparison with the
statistics in the 1960s it was less than 5%.
People are reported disappointed with consumerism, social
inequalities, self-satisfaction. They care about the environment,
relationships, peace, social justice, and self‐expression. And social
movements evolve in a way that change people in their thinking and in
the manner to understand the world .
