This is a musical theory lesson on the flat key signatures. After viewing this lesson you will be able to name all of the Major flat keys, the scales that go with the key signature and put their in correct order.
There is over one hundred scales written for music, but we will be only looking a few.
Some scales use sharps.
Some are very complicated like the diminished scales.
Minor scales are very common.
But we will be looking at the Major flat scales â no not that type of flat scale.
We will be looking at seven Major scales. The C, F, B flat, E flat, A flat, D flat, and G flat.
We start with the C Major Scale. There are no flats or sharps in this scale. There no flats or sharps in the key signature. We will build the other scales off of this one.
Next we have the F scale with itâs one flat. The F Major scale has B flat in itâs key signature. Or you can say that the key signature to the F scale is on flat. B Flat.
The third scale in the order is the B Flat scale. This scale has two flats. B Flat and E Flat. The Key Signature to the B Flat Major scale is two flats, B Flat and E Flat.
The fourth scale is the E Flat Scale. You might be seeing a pattern here. Each time we add one new flat and keep the previous flats. Also the name of the scale is the second to last flat listed. The key signature to the E Flat scale is three flats â B Flat, E Flat, and A Flat. Can you guess what the next scale will be?
The A Flat scale. There are four flats in the key signature of the A Flat scale. B Flat, E Flat, A Flat, and now we have added the D Flat. What will be the next scale? I will give you a hint, it will have the same name as the last flat we added.
Thatâs correct, it is the D Flat Major scale and it now has five flats in the key signature. B Flat, E Flat, A Flat, D Flat, and the G Flat. The last scale we will be looking at follows the same pattern as the previous six. Look at how the flats are arranged on the staff and see if you can figure out the last flat.
Did you figure it out. It was the C Flat. This makes a total of six flats in the Key Signature. We would say that the Key Signature to the G Flat Major scale has six flats. B Flat, E Flat, A Flat, D Flat, G Flat and C Flat.
Here are all of the Major Flat scales beginning with the C major that has no Flats or Sharps. Name the rest of the Key Signatures.
Here are the seven scales with the key signature. Name the Scales.
Rearrange the numbers so that the scales are in the correct order.
