• Persepolis. I loved the story, and I thought it was
clever to use a graphic novel to surpass any
language barriers between the two groups.
What students say
American students really have
explicit freedom of speech!!!!!!!! And
due to this course we had an
opportunity to appreciate it and
express our ideas and then discussed
them!!! Wonderful!!!!!!!!
It seems that US media is a little more democratic than
Belarusian. But it was interesting to know that sometimes
the Americans didn't trust the news as well as Belarusian
people. I think I got good information about US media in
this project.

VIKA & HOPE Hope -
HOPE & VIKA Hope knew the Belarusians were juggling jobs and Alesia and Vika used to teaching fully Templated online courses versus faculty driven development started from scratch Curriculum shown on screen and
RC - Kick off the collaboration with help from Globalization 101 with setting up the curriculum in advance Levin Institute and Rebecca Smolar
VIKA Friendly relations
RC and VIKA
RICHARD shared discussion rubric between the partners , even though grading separately on each campus because this is a collaboration We are modeling international cooperation Important the rubric be mutually agreed upon
RICHARD Design a safe space for international collaborationCommunity college students don’t get to go international So this is big deal to be able to go beyond our county and to be talking with people from another country and speaking another language Place of second chances Place where 1st generation of college graduatesResting spot for new foreign students Our students are often changing careersMilitary
HOPE – You can see how substantial and sophisticated the responses are. Vika had been teaching online for a while but Richard was new to the online approach to teaching. We were ableto help Richard see how he can facilitate the guide on the side versus being the sage on the stage That the discussion board offers the opportunity to connect student to student. We provide juicy topics and let the sparks fly. It was great to see Richard look at the discussion board and marvel at how articulate the conversation evolved
RICHARD & VIKA RC - EHU students doing ESL RC_ Ulster students taking Contemporary World Literature RC- Enabled the students to have meanigful interaction beyond ……Graphic Novel because of ESL connection but the surprise and re-group was the sophistication in the responses from all VIKATimeliness of Iranian revolution Corrupt elections and Arab spring
Take yellow band to this screen and pixtonHW _ example of collessing truly Media Lesson plan and Persepolis and the structure of the graphic novelVIKA – thankful to HW for getting the tool set up RC – Importance of having an instructional designer and get tools involved to make it work as a class
VIKA & RICHVM- SUNY and EHU students equally enjoyed course, had things in common, metaphorical bridgeHW – US students taking freedom for granted
