Numerous new directives, regulations and technical rules have been adopted in the recent years with regard to explosion
prevention. These new regulations have inevitably brought about an increase in both the operational and the organizational
requirements on part of the operating companies: They have to take more responsibility for their own activities.
We, the expert technicians of the weyer group, are thoroughly skilled in the field of explosion prevention. Being occupied
in this field every day and equipped with an expert knowledge as well as a high degree of practical experience deriving
from many engineering projects, we have become a competent engineering consultant in all aspects of this field.
2. À What can we do for you?
As early as at the stage of the plant
layout and the approval procedure, we
will draw up your technically and eco-
nomically optimized explosion preven-
tion concepts. Apart from focusing on
the lowest possible investment costs,
we will put the emphasis on easy han-
dling and operability as wells as plant
maintenance.
2 Applicability of non-elec-
trical devices
Until now the focus of explosion preven-
tion was primarily concentrated on electri-
cal equipment, e.g. in the sphere of EMSR-
technology, switching systems and
electrical drives. The new regulations have
clearly defined the explosion prevention
for non-electrical devices like e.g. pumps,
compressors and stirring units. The appli-
cability of such devices with regard to ex-

Our service:
À Explosion prevention
À Applicability of non-
electrical devices
À Qualified personnel
À In-house trainings
The experts of the weyer group have de-
veloped explosion prevention concepts
for a wide variety of different industrial
plants, e.g. the petroleum industry, the
pharmaceutical industry, the printing and
paper industry. Benefit from our experi-
ence!
1 Explosion prevention
documentation
In accordance with § 6 of the German In-
dustrial Safety Regulations (Betriebssicher-
heitsverordnung), an explosion prevention
documentation has to be drawn up for all
plants and plant areas in which a hazard-
ous, explosive atmosphere can occur. Es-
sential topics of such documentation are:
• Risk assessment and
• Protection concept
The resultant classification of hazardous
areas defines the requirements concer-
ning electrical and mechanical devices.

3. Those tasks, to which you familiarize with,
are our daily business. Hence, we offer
you in-house trainings in which our experts
systematically circulate their expertise. The
plant operator’s only task is to name the
main focus with regard to contents. The
trainings are not one-way lectures by the
trainer but after a short introduction he
will invite the participants to take part in
animated discussions referring to the spe-
cific subject matter. This way, we can be
sure that all individual topics will be talked
about.
Our in-house trainings are of particular in-
terest for plant engineers and layout engi-
neers and they are especially purposeful
for the senior staff being responsible for
the general plant safety.
commissioning as well as repeat tests for
technical devices, protection systems and
plants in hazardous areas. If workplaces
have to be checked concerning their safety
against explosion accidents (according to
appen-dix 4, part A, No. 3.8 of the Indus-
trial Safety Regulations), our well-experi-
enced experts will also be available in this
field. Our long-standing experience
enables us to establish swiftly and compe-
tently inspection intervals for electrical
and non-electrical devices. In doing so, we
closely work together with the plant oper-
ator so that the individual operating condi-
tions can be observed.
4 In-house trainings
The large number of newly enacted regu-
lations, technical rules and standards in
the sphere of explosion prevention re-
quires the manufacturer / operator of a
facility to have an intensive attention to
these issues. First and foremost, he will
have to investigate in order to implement
all rights and duties conforming to the
regulations: What regulations have lately
become valid for which plant area? What
are the individual, resulting consequences
for the equipment, the operating unit and
the organization?
But: All tasks which do not belong to your
actual core business tie up time, money
and resources.
plosion prevention has to be proven in
written form. This refers not only to new
devices but likewise to those ones which
have been in operation before the end of
thetransitionalperiod,i.e.the30.06.2003.
À How can we support you?
• We will provide you with the proof
of applicability concerning explosion
prevention. In doing so, we will carry
out the ignition source analysis in ac-
cordance with DIN 13463 and draw up
the corresponding technical documen-
tation. If necessary, authorized bodies,
e.g. the IBExU (notified body in accord-
ance with directive 94/9/EC) will be in-
volved.
• We can offer the manufacturers of
technical devices the required risk as-
sessment concerning explosion pre-
vention for both individual units and
groups of components. In doing so, our
experts will accompany the conformity
assessment procedure until the EU-dec-
laration of conformity has been issued.
3 Qualified personnel
Our experts, in their capacity as Qualified
Personnel (according to TRBS 1203), will
carry out explosion prevention tests on
behalf of the operating company. In ac-
cordance with the Industrial Safety Regu-
lations, we carry out tests prior to the first
