1. God an Adversary or an
Advocate- Isa 65:12-14
Isa 65:12-14
12 Therefore will I number you to the sword,
and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter:
because when I called, ye did not answer;
when I spake, ye did not hear;
but did evil before mine eyes,
and did choose that wherein I delighted not.
13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD,
Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry:
behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty:
behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:
14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye
shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of
spirit.
God as an adversary-
2. Isa 65:12 ... and did choose that wherein I delighted not.
I. Corrupt Comprehension- Isa 65:2
Isa 65:2
2 I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious
people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after
their own thoughts;
Man has a thinking problem that makes him the enemy of
God.
Rom 8:5-6
5 For they that are after the flesh do MIND the things of
the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of
the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally MINDED is death; but to be spiritually
minded is life and peace.
John 6:63
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth
nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are
spirit, and they are life.
Rom 8:8
3. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Isa 55:6-7
6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye
upon him while he is near:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the
unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return
unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and
to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Ps 10:4
4 The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will
not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
Rom 1:28
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their
knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to
do those things which are not convenient;
Turn your mind over to God’s control, then check
your thoughts by his word.
Isa 42:19-21
4. 19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my
messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect,
and blind as the LORD'S servant?
20 Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening
the ears, but he heareth not.
21 The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness'
sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.
Isa 30:1-2
1 Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that
take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a
covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to
sin:
2 That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at
my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of
Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt!
God becomes man’s adversary through corrupt
comprehension, the things you think;
God also becomes man’s adversary when a man’s affections
become askew.
II. Affections Askew- Isa 65:12
5. Askew: not straight or level with what it should be in line
with.
Col 3:1-2
1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which
are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on
the earth.
Seek- you take action to find something
Set- you take action to place something
Isa 65:12
…and did choose that wherein I delighted not.
Isa 65:11 But ye are they that forsake the LORD,
that forget my holy mountain,
Eccl 12:1
1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth,
while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh,
when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
Isa 65:11 …that prepare a table for that troop,
Job 27:16-17
6. 16 Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare
raiment as the clay;
17 He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the
innocent shall divide the silver.
Isa 65:11 …and that furnish the drink offering
unto that number.
1Cor 10:20-21
20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice,
they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not
that ye should have fellowship with devils.
21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of
devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of
the table of devils.
God as man’s advocate…
III. Rescued Remnant- Isa 65:8-9
Isa 65:8-9
8 Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the
cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it:
so will I do for my servants' sakes, that I may not
destroy them all.
7. 9 And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of
Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall
inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.
Isa 62:6
6 I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which
shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make
mention of the LORD, keep not silence,
Isa 11:16
16 And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his
people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to
Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.
Rom 11:3-6
3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged
down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek
my life.
4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have
reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not
bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
8. 5 Even so then at this present time also there is a
remnant according to the election of grace.
6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise
grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no
more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
1John 2:1-2
1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye
sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the
Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours
only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
1John 1:8-10
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and
the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar,
and his word is not in us.
Isa 66:1-2
9. 1 Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the
earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build
unto me? and where is the place of my rest?
2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those
things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I
look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit,
and trembleth at my word.
