On Black Friday in 2011, we launched GoCrowdless, com as a gift to holiday travelers to NYC. We used foursquare check-ins as a proxy for crowds, giving travelers the ability to discern the best times to visit their favorite NYC destinations and the most crowded times to avoid.
2. TIME TO EXECUTE
4 weeks
THE IDEA
Collect foursquare data on the
top 20 most popular holiday
destinations in NYC. Over time the
data will reveal visitation patterns
for each of the locations.
GoCrowdless.com presents the
data in a clear and simple manner,
allowing the general public to see
when each of the locations will be
at its most and least crowded. A
headache-free visit to the Big
Apple is now possible.

3. RESULTS
• Once again, with zero paid media
support, the site caught the eye of
technologists, marketing geeks and
tourism associations.
• From November 30th, when the tree
was lit in Rockerfeller Center until
New Year’s Eve the site experienced
2,800+ visits
• Nearly 50% of the site’s traffic came
from areas that often visit the area
during the holidays - NY, NJ and PA.
• 25% coming from NYC
• To gather assets for case study three
interns were sent to NYC to collect
photos of crowds and partake in
early morning Today Show stunt
