Acts 9
Acts 9:1-22
Meanwhile, Saul was still spewing out murderous threats against the
Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest, seeking letters to the
synagogues in Damascus. If he found persons who belonged to the Way,
whether men or women, these letters would authorize him to take
them as prisoners to Jerusalem. During the journey, as he approached
Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven encircled him. He fell to the
ground and heard a voice asking him, “Saul, Saul, why are you harassing
me?” Saul asked, “Who are you, Lord?” “I am Jesus, whom you are
harassing,” came the reply. “Now get up and enter the city. You will be
told what you must do.” …
… In Damascus there was a certain disciple named Ananias. The Lord
spoke to him in a vision, “Ananias!” He answered, “Yes, Lord.” The
Lord instructed him, “Go to Judas’ house on Straight Street and ask for
a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is praying. In a vision he has seen a
man named Ananias enter and put his hands on him to restore his
sight.” Ananias countered, “Lord, I have heard many reports about this
man. People say he has done horrible things to your holy people in
Jerusalem. He’s here with authority from the chief priests to arrest

2. everyone who calls on your name.”
The Lord replied, “Go! This man is the agent I have chosen to carry my
name before Gentiles, kings, and Israelites. I will show him how much
he must suffer for the sake of my name.”
Ananias went to the house. He placed his hands on Saul and said,
“Brother Saul, the Lord sent me—Jesus, who appeared to you on the
way as you were coming here. He sent me so that you could see again
and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Instantly, flakes fell from Saul’s
eyes and he could see again. He got up and was baptized. After eating,
he regained his strength. He stayed with the disciples in Damascus for
several days. Right away, he began to preach about Jesus in the
synagogues. “He is God’s Son,” he declared. Everyone who heard him
was baffled. They questioned each other, “Isn’t he the one who was
wreaking havoc among those in Jerusalem who called on this name?
Hadn’t he come here to take those same people as prisoners to the chief
priests?” But Saul grew stronger and stronger. He confused the Jews
who lived in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Christ.
Paul Tells of His Life Before Conversion
Galatians 1:13-16
You heard about my previous life in Judaism, how severely I harassed
God’s church and tried to destroy it. I advanced in Judaism beyond
many
of my peers, because I was much more militant about the traditions of
my ancestors. But God had set me apart from birth and called me
through his grace. He was pleased to reveal his Son to me, so that I
might preach about him to the Gentiles.
TRUTH… the Good News of Jesus Christ comes through the ways of
God, not from human logic or reasoning, but from God, and God
alone!
Transformed lives happen only by the power of the Holy Spirit!!
Acts 9:26-28
When Saul arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they
were all afraid of him. They didn’t believe he was really a disciple.
Then Barnabas brought Saul to the apostles and told them the story
about how Saul saw the Lord on the way and that the Lord had spoken
to Saul. He
also told them about the confidence with which Saul had preached in
the name of Jesus in Damascus. After this, Saul moved freely among
the disciples in Jerusalem and was speaking with confidence in the
name of
the Lord.

3. For Personal or Group Reflection
1. Reflect on the people you have seen transformed by the power of
God. What changes have you seen in their lives?
2. How did the Lord first get your attention?
3. How do you think Saul felt when confronted by Jesus?
4. What do you think went on in Saul’s mind during the three days of
blindness and fasting?
5. Try to put yourself in the place of Ananias. How would you feel if the
Lord told you to go find Saul, knowing what you knew about Saul’s past?
6. Who has been an Ananias in your life? To whom does the Lord want
you to play that part?

families through providers’ booths, help with childcare, food service or
goods hand-out.
Show your community you care by signing up at www.careday.net, then
click on “Volunteer at Care Day.”
Thanks to everyone who has
donated to the Sock Drive!
We’ve collected more than 275 pairs of socks! These will be given to the
men, women, children and teenagers who come to Care Day. Each pair of
socks will have a label that says “A Gift for You from Woodinville
Community Church.”
We are accepting new socks for any age until August 1. We could
especially use socks for women and teen-age girls.
Sock-sorters and Labelers Needed
If you would like to help sort, bag and label socks for the Care Day give-

Outdoor Adventures
Whidbey Island Road Trip
Saturday, August 9
Join us as we take a road trip to Whidbey Island. We’ll meet at the
church at 9:00 AM, then car pool up to Deception Pass where we will do
a little sight-seeing and hiking. Then we’ll drive down to Fort Casey and
explore the fortifications.
For dinner we’ll continue down the Island to Lee and Gaila Palo’s new
house and have a weenie/hot dog roast on the beach. Finally it’s back
home on the ferry to Mukilteo. We should be back to the church by 8:00
PM.
WHAT TO BRING: Hiking shoes, sack lunch, water bottle, camera,
appropriate clothing, something to share at the hot dog roast
(Diane/Sandy will coordinate).
COST: Nothing, except you will need a Discovery Pass and the cost of the
ferry. NOTE: You do not pay for passengers when you go eastbound on
the ferry (the way we’ll be going). Sign up in the Foyer.

8. FOOD BANK VOLUNTEER
OPPORTUNITIES TO SHARE
Do you like meeting new people? Do you like praying for people's
needs? The Woodinville Storehouse is looking for a Volunteer
Coordinator to coordinate teams once or twice a month while the food
bank is open. Duties include coordinating teams, interviewing and
registering new clients, collecting prayer requests and praying with
clients.
