CORRECTING COMMON ERRORS IN ENGLISH
Units 1 a, an, the, many, much, a few, etc

COMMON ERRORS
1. Wrong - He eats apple one day.
   Right - He eats an apple a day.
2. Wrong - Dog got tail.
   Right - A dog has a tail.
3. Wrong - He phoned taxi. Where's taxi?
   Right - He phoned for a taxi. Where's the taxi?
4. Wrong - I have much money, but not much coins.
   Right - I have a lot of money, but not many coins.
5. Wrong - Road is clear. There no traffic.
   Right - The road is clear. There isn't any traffic.


NOTES ON CORRECT USAGE
1. Use 'a' before a consonant sound.
   He's a student.
2. Use 'an' before a vowel sound.
   I sent an e-mail.
   Also use 'an' before a silent 'h'.
   He will be here in an hour.
3. Use 'the' when referring to a particular thing.
   That's the car. That's the stolen car.
4. Use these expressions with uncountable nouns:
   not much rain, a great deal of rain,
   a little water, (but drops of water)
   a lot of snow, plenty of dust
5. For countable nouns, use these expressions:
   a few cars, many houses
   a lot of people, any boxes in there?
   several boxes, plenty of seats
