1. Prayer
God of life, we praise you for your abiding presence
from generation to generation, blessing your people,
strengthening us to lives of service,
and empowering us to witness.
Grant that as we serve you now on earth,
so we may one day rejoice with all the saints
in your kingdom of light and peace,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
3. The righteous (faithful/just) flourish like the palm tree,
and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
They are planted in the house of the Lord;
they flourish in the courts of our God.
In old age they still produce fruit;
they are always green and full of sap,
showing that the Lord is upright;
he is my rock, and there is no
unrighteousness (unfaithfulness/injustice) in him.
PSALM 92:12-15
9. EUCHARIST
we gather in worship around
a weekly celebration of God’s presence
in the elements of the communion table
10. 1 CORINTHIANS 11:23-26 (NRSV)
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to
you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night when he was
betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he
broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do
this in remembrance of me.” In the same way
he also took the cup after supper, saying,
“This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this,
as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you
proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
11. EUCHARIST
- This is not our table, but Jesus’
- His table is open to all
- His table always has room
- His table always has enough
- You can view these elements literally,
symbolically, or somewhere in between
- Our weekly celebration of this table
roots/marks us as Christians, citizens
of the historic, future, local, and global
community of those who follow Jesus
13. SCRIPTURE
we believe in the authority of God
in scripture and seek to filter our interpretation
of it through the
primary filter of the crucified
and risen Christ
15. 2 TIMOTHY 3:15-16 (MSG)
There’s nothing like the written (w)ord of God
for showing you the way to salvation through
faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture
is God-breathed and useful one way or another—
showing us truth, exposing our rebellion,
correcting our mistakes, training us
to live God’s way. Through the Word
we are put together and shaped up
for the tasks God has for us.
16. SCRIPTURE
- I try to read/teach with context in mind
- I try to make it clear when we are free
to disagree on our interpretations
- I try to make it clear we are all ethically
responsible for our interpretations
and the impact they have on all life,
human and non-human
- I try to encourage us to read/interpret/
apply the text in community
18. CHRISTOFORMITY
we want to see our lives formed
in the image of Jesus, loving God
with everything we have, and loving
our neighbors as ourselves
19. COLOSSIANS 1:15 (MSG)
We look at this Son and see
the God who cannot be seen
HEBREWS 1:3 (NRSV)
He is the reflection of God’s glory
and the exact imprint of God’s very being
JOHN 14:9 (NRSV)
Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father
20. MATTHEW 22:13-14 (NIV)
Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees,
the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert
in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which
is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with
all your heart and with all your soul and with
all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest
commandment. And the second is like it:
‘Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and
the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

22. Benediction
God of life and of growth,
make us as those who flourish like the palm tree,
as those who grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Plant us in your house; make us flourish in your courts.
In old age may we still produce fruit;
may we always be green and full of sap,
showing that the Lord is upright; that God is our rock,
and there is no injustice or unfaithfulness in you.
Amen.
