PORTABLE MINILATHE
3. • It is that of all the machines employed by the
mechanic to aid he in his work
• The lathe holds the honor of having been the
first machine tool. From it all other machine
tools have been developed as they are.
PORTABLE MINILATHE
4. • Length of the bed
• Width of the lathe bed
• Height of centers over the bed
• Distance between centers
• Swing diameter over the bed
• Over the carriage
• Max diameter of all through spindle
• Power of the motor
• Modes of drives
• No. of spindle speed
• Lead screw details
• Weight and floor space required
PORTABLE MINILATHE
7. • Lathe is known as the mother machine tool
• It is one of the most widely used machine
tools in all parts of the world.
• An engine lathe is the most basic and simplest
form of the engine lathe
• Engine lathe derives it’s name from the early
lathes, which obtained their power from
engines
PORTABLE MINILATHE
8. • Bulky
• Placed at a fixed place
• Maintenance
• Huge space required
• High initial cost
PORTABLE MINILATHE
9. • Concept
The portable mini lathe is a simplest wood
turning machine having simple constructional parts
which favors less effort to operate.
PORTABLE MINILATHE
10. • Need
The conventional lathe machines are suffering
from its bulkiness to carry it to preferred workspace.
We need to admit the workshop for even light
operations like internal design parts, modification
etc.
The PORTABLE MINI LATHE is specially designed
for carpenters to carry light operation within his
workspace. The operator can carry the machine itself
anywhere as he porting his tools.
PORTABLE MINILATHE
11. • Portability
• Lathe performance within the workspace
• Lathe operations with the tool available the
carpenter
• Feasibility multiple operations
• Machining of light metals
• Economic
PORTABLE MINILATHE
12. PORTABLE MINILATHE
The main parts incorporate the PORTABLE MINI
LATHE are,
•Headstock (Hand drill)
•Wooden bed
•Head stock carrier
•Hand drill support
•Wooden tailstock
13. The main parts incorporate the PORTABLE MINI
LATHE are,
•Tailstock guide way
•Stud
•Clamp
•Hinge
•Screws
•Bolts
•Washer
•Chisel
PORTABLE MINILATHE
14. • Portable mini lathe uses
hand drill as headstock
• It can be driven by
minimum power
• Three wooden clamp is
used to fix the drill
• It is light and compact
to assemble and
disassemble
PORTABLE MINILATHE
15. SPECIFICATIONS
• Type – portable
• Net weight of the drilling machine – 1.4 kg
• Speed at no load – 22oorpm
• Power – 450W
PORTABLE MINILATHE
16. • Jack enables to facilitate
minimum pitch to
adjust the height
• Can fix easily
• Rigid support
PORTABLE MINILATHE
17. • It made up of
combination of wooden
block and steel ball
bearing
• The dead centre made
up of aluminum
PORTABLE MINILATHE
19. PORTABLE MINILATHE
• Mini lathe uses a
wooden bed which
interns reduce the
weight as compared to
metal
• Slot provided ensures to
and fro motion of
tailstock
21. PORTABLE MINILATHE
• Guide way which guides
the tailstock to and fro
movement accurately
• It is made up of
stainless steel C-
members, that is
obtained by cut out one
side of square member.
23. PORTABLE MINILATHE
NUT&BOLT
A total 29 nuts and bolt are used to fix the machinery.
Fix the lathe bed to the stand - M10
Fix the scissor jack to the bed - M10
Fix the headstock carrier to the jack -M10
Fix the tailstock to the bed - M12
Fix the hand drill to the carrier -M6
24. PORTABLE MINILATHE
Wooden clamp fix the hand drill
properly to the hand drill carrier
Dimension
Length -120mm
Breadth-60mm
Height -20mm
Radius -25mm
26. • Metal/ wood cutting; metal and the wood as
required dimension were cut with the cutter and the
jig saw at the mechanical workshop.
PORTABLE MINILATHE
27. WORKSHOP FACILITY USED
• Drilling; holes are drilled on the metal as well as the
wood at the lathe workshop with the radial drilling
machine and the hand drill
PORTABLE MINILATHE
28. WORKSHOP FACILITY USED
• Grinding; cut structural members were grind at the
mechanical workshop.
PORTABLE MINILATHE
29. PORTABLE MINILATHE
Welding; the structural members were
welded together to build the stand and
plates were welded to the scissor jack to
get it fixed on the bed. The tailstock
centre was welded the ball bearing then
the clamp
WORKSHOP FACILITY USED
30. WORKSHOP FACILITY USED
• Fitting; the tailstock centre produced by grinding and
filing the aluminum rod of diameter 15mm.
PORTABLE MINILATHE
31. WORKSHOP FACILITY USED
• Carpentry ; shaping the wood and cut the slot on the
lathe bed is done at the carpentry
PORTABLE MINILATHE
33. • Mobility
• Perform every operations , considering with
conventional lathe
• Simple and compact
• Easy to handle
• No need extra manpower
• Very cheap
• Less power consumption
• Fixed anywhere
34. • Difficult to perform large workpiece
• Skilled labours required
• Vibration problem
36. • Perform operations such as,
1. Turning
2. Grinding
3. Cutting
4. Polishing
• Applicable in carpentry workshop.
37. • Portability
• Lathe performance within the workspace
• Operations with tools available the carpenter
• Economy
• Feasibility of multiple operations
