observed that there was in-
crease in size of fruit provided
him good market rate.
As of now he has harvested 35
quintals of okra from field
@18-20kg/quintal and
earned Rs 32,240 , input cost
Rs 5700 accumulated to net
profit Rs 26,540. Intercropped
with okra was cucumber with
local seeds which was har-
vested 16 quintals @ 20kg /
quintal and net profit was
Rs.32,000. Net profit from
0.75 acre as of now is Rs.
52,500. Plant duration (100
days )
As compared to previous year
plant height 2.5-3feet yield
was around 10-12 quintals,
and earned Rs 22,000 with
input cost 14,000 and net
profit 8000Rs. Plant duration
(45 days )
With his experience this year
with organic inputs he is looking
forward to use them also for the
upcoming kharif season for
paddy, maize, legumes and
other vegetables.
Prayag Mahto (21) a young
farmer from village Hesla of
Partau block in Ramgarh dis-
trict, Jharkhand owns (0.75
acre) of land and cultivated
lady finger (Okra) and inter
cropped it with local cucumber.
This small piece of land is an
important source of livelihood
for his family , which includes
his mother , sister and uncle. He
is one the active students in the
Green College initiative for
Integrated Farming System
(IFS), and shows his keen inter-
est for practical application of
organic botanicals and sustain-
able farming practices despite
of time and labour demand.
In Zaid 19th March 2016 he
showed 4 kg of Okra seeds in
his field it was late showing but ,
things were going pretty well,
after three weeks of showing he
noticed that growth of the plant
is not much as expected , de-
spite this he had a strong be-
lieve in organic farming. Since
Green College had enhanced
his skills in organic farming
which farmers had not been
aware before. He decided to
made use of Fish Tonic (Fish
Amino Acid) prepared with local
available resources. He used
250 ml of fish tonic with a ratio
of (5:15) twice a week as foliar
application the evening. He ob-
served significant changes in his
crop.( increase fruit and flower-
ing , leaf colors dark green),
plant height 4.5 - 5feet.
With due course of time and
regular use he observes that the
problems he faced previous
year like fruit and flower fall
did not emerged as he applied
fish tonic. Other problems like
fruit borer and red spider were
controlled with application of
(Lamit Arka) foliar application
30ml with 3:15 ratio once in a

Abstract:
In the face of climate change sustainable agriculture practices contributes to climate resilient agriculture
practices. Organic farming with use of local available resources is tested with farmers of Green College in
Patratu. Where the farmers enhanced there skills in Integrated Farming System with organic inputs.
FARMER WITH A DIFFERENCE
Introduction:
Sustainable agriculture practices have shift to centre of attention. With increasing concern regarding envi-
ronment, food security and sustainable source of livelihood , organic farming are an alternative source to
farmer friendly agriculture practices . With emerging paradigm of sustainability in agriculture strives to
amalgamate modern skills with traditional farming wisdom which has been a core focus in Green College.
