2. Education-Music Education
The number of the institutions that provide vocational music education
has İncreased enormously over the past few years. Not only in the city
they exist, but also in the whole region, these institutions, which have
contributed enormously to Turkish culture and Turkish musical culture in
National and international area, also have contributions to the education
of The public and their cultural development through their scientific and
artistic activities

3. Institutions of Music Education & Vocational Music
Education in Turkey
Music education in Turkey has been designed as to be formal and
non formal and is still being applied within two perspectives:
general and vocational. High Schools and Faculties of Fine Arts,
Departments of Music Education and Music Teaching,
Conservatories and Military Schools of Music are among the
important institutions that prepare individuals and the society
for the future, make them conscious, develop their personality,
and enable them to live as self-confident individuals by means of
education of music and arts, activities of music and arts, and
scientific activities of music and arts Institutions of vocational
music education have an effective role in educating the public
through their scientific and artistic activities, courses, etc

4. Society & Arts
Institutions of vocational music education use every aspect of arts as an
İnstrument and bear an important role in achieving the desired
development in public both as individuals and as a society No matter how
traditional a society is, it develops and changes over the time. The
observable appearance of this change and development is cultural
developments and changes. One of the most important elements of this
process is arts. “German writers Dessoir and Utitz, with their words
‘Arts broaden our narrow life by bringing new feelings and ideas; after all,
arts have religious, emotional, national and pragmatist responsibilities.’-
put some responsibilities on arts.

5. Afyonkarahisar
Afyonkarahisar dates back to 2000 BC. It was founded on
steep rocks at the mouth of a volcano. “Afyonkarahisar used to
hold an important place in the Ottomans, Seljuks and Pre-Islam
periods. It is the entrance to Anatolia from the Aegean and
Mediterranean sea . Its centre is a sort of junction where the
Aegean and Mediterranean meet; therefore, the city has been a
crucial centre throughout its history”. Previously inhabited by the
Hittites and Phrygians, the city still carries the signs of the
Ottomans and Seljuks.

6. Conservatories
Conservatories are among the important educational organizations in
formal Music education in terms of raising professional musicians and
artists. Conservatories are “institutions of higher education that raise
artists in arts Of music and stage.” There are 170 universities in
Turkey, 36 of which have conservatories. 29 of them are state
universities while 3 of them are foundation universities. The name may
vary as State Conservatory and Turkish Music State Conservatory.
According to 2011 data, 2758 students are currently having education
in these institutions and they are accepted on the basis of an audition
test. The courses also vary as musical (Western, Turkish) education,
education of stage arts, education of musicology education of basic
sciences and education of Turkish Folk Music

7. State Conservatory of Afyon Kocatepe University
State Conservatory of Afyon Kocatepe University was established in
1999 and started education in 2001-2002 academic period. The
educational time is four years. The departments are Turkish
Traditional Art Music, Traditional Folk Music, Turkish Folk Dance
and, Visiual Arts, and Music (western) Department

8. TURKISH FOLK MUSIC DEPARMENT
Turkish Folk Music Department has those programs which are
(Bağlama, kabak kemane, tar, zurna, mey, kaval)

9. TRADİTİONAL ART MUSİC DEPARTMENT
As assistant Profession instrument and profession instrument education
Tanbur, Reed flute, Basic kemancha, Oud, Violoncello, Zither, Violin,
Rhythm instruments (a small double drum, frame drum, Circle,
tambourine)
are given in both department. In our department including there are 4
academic in Voice Training department , 10 academic, 1 lecturer, 2 research
assistant in Basic Sciences department in total 18 instructor.

10. MUSİC DEPARTMENT
There are including 5 foreign nationals in total 21 Academic member in
music department which has programs like Piano Department, Stringed
Instruments Department (Violin-Viola- Cello-Contrabass), Wind Instrument
and Percussion Instrument Department (Clarinet-Trumpet).

14. Music department of Afyon Kocatepe University State Conservatory
Western Music department is composed of Piano Main Branch of
Arts, Stringed Instruments Main Branch of Arts (Violin, Viola,
Cello, and Contrabass), Wind Instruments and Percussion Instruments
Main Branches of Arts (Clarinet and Trumpet). Teaching international
music and modern Turkish classical music qualitatively, music
department bring a different dimension to the cultural life of the
traditional society of the city of Afyonkarahisar with its scientific
and artistic activities

15. INTERNATIONAL MARSYAS CULTURE-ART AND MUSIC
FESTIVAL

In festival, national and international competetion, symposioum, panel,
exhibition, conscert activities, documentaries presentation will take part.
During festival, conservatory students and academician will take part in
scientific and artistic activities.

16. MUSIC EDUCATORS WORKSHOP
Our conservatory, which provides to gather music teachers regular on the
city where it is found, contribute acamedic development, support in service
training of music teachers by inviting expert academicians, is unit institution
in our country. “Muis Educators Workshop” is taken as an example by
institutions which give other music educations on our country.

17. CONCERT OF AMATEUR INSTRUMENTALIST
Our conservatory is interested in the ones who cares music “amateur”, and
also it introduces every person, who takes qualified instrument education,
with stage whatever its age is.

18. 23RD OF APRİL CHOROUS FESTİVAL
Our conservatory organizes “23rd of April Chorous Festival” with
Afyonkarahisar mayoralty and provincial directorate for national education
cooperaiton every year.

19. INTERNATIONAL HİSARLI AHMET SYMPOSİUM
Our conservatory organize “Internatıonal Hisarlı Ahmet Symposium” in
Kütahya. Symposium was made on behalf of Kütahya folk songs’ resourse
person Hisarlı Ahmet and this symposium supports musicology studies in
our country.

20. INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
Our students went to Poland and they maintained their studyon that country
and completed successfuly. Within Lifelearning/Erasmus Lecturing
(LLP/Erasmus Teaching Staff Mobility) and Staff Mobility (LLP/Erasmus
Staff Training), which is carried out by the Prime Ministry State Planning
Organization of Turkish Republic, European Union Education and Youth
programs Center Leadership, our students and lecturers can go abroad. One
of the main aim in the future of our conservatory is to be a member of
European Conservatories Union. There are bilateral relations and protocols
with Spain, Hungary, Germany, Italy, South Korean, Egypt, Pakistan and
Polland.

21. OUR NEW BUİLDİNG OF STATE CONSERVATORY
It is intented to move from present building on Ahmet Necdet Sezer Campus
to Fine Art Faculty and State Conservatory building whose building
construction continue on August,2012. New Conservatory building, which is
a project that is exemplary about bodily, increase education activities
qualification. Our conservatory’s block is two-fold, there are 12 classrom on
ground flor, 40 Lecturer rooms, 8 various activities and study rooms, 1 art
gallery. On the first flor there are 44 personal study room, 7 classrooms, 5
various activities and study rooms, 32 lecturer rooms and 5 executive staff
rooms. There is comprehensive gallery which has got cinema-Tv studios,
concert galleries next to conservatory building.
