uLaw Lecture Scheduling
Guest lectures are currently being scheduled for schools participating in uL-
aw’s EDU program. Take a look
Students will learn about: disbursements and how to man-
age them; the virues of handling disbursements in a trust
account; the different types of general disbursements. Billa-
bles/actuals, unit rate expenses, milleage, travel time, re-
covery of expenses, will be introduced. Also discussed is the
expectations of the Law Society when it comes to disburse-
ments
In this 1.5 hour guest lecture, a wide range of topics will be
covered. Divided into seven subsections, this lecture will ex-
haustively cover all the major areas of practice management
for Canadian law offices.
What is the reconciliation process? How do you do trust
reconciliation, and why? These areas will be explored. This
course will show students the core aspects of an audit-ready
financial management process, with a live demo.
Students learn the differences between disbursements and
business/office expenses. Class will learn about types of ex-
penses, how to manage them. Intro to disbursements, what
they are, how to handle them out of trust & why. Topics also
explored: expense book and analytics for expenses.
Topics covered: intro to trust and general ledgers, what it
takes to maintain them; receivable and disbursement jour-
nals, reconciliation and methods to manage it; fee book and
how it works, Form 9a and deposit slips.
