This is the 2nd lesson on the series on the Scriptural Basis of the Church of Christ, organised by the Church as a refresher course to the brethren.
In this lesson, the scriptural basis for the five (5) compulsory elements of worship were discussed:
1. Teaching/Preaching,
2. Giving,
3. Singing,
4. Breaking of bread (Holy Communion), and
5. Prayers.

4. The Worship of the Church
The Church
Preplanned, Purposed, prophesized & Placed by God
Like Noah’s ark, only people inside saved (Acts 2:
47, 1 Pet 3:20-21)
You don’t join the Church, God adds you
Now once in, what next?
Newborn babes needing to grow (1Pet 2:2; )
And they continued steadfastly in the Apostles’
doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread,
and in prayers (Acts 2:42 KJV)

Beginning
Worship of the Church is simple, based entirely on
worship authorized in the NT, without human
innovation (Matt 15:9)

Continue steadfastly in Apostles’ doctrine

Christ’s instruction (Matt 28:19-20)
Study important
To abide in the doctrine of Christ (2Jn 9)
To maintain salvation (1Tim 4:16)
Women not to teach men in assembly (1Tim 2:11-12)
Can teach other women & children (Titus 2:3-5)
Also teach men in private situations (Acts 18:26)
To avoid division in the church (Rom 16:17-18)
To rightly divide the word (2Tim 2:15)

Instruction (1Cor 16:1-2)
First day of the week (weekly, not weakly)
Lay in store in relation to how God has prospered
you
Decide amount, cheerfully, not of necessity (2Cor

Tithing
Old testament command (Num 18:20-27)
Change of priesthood, change of law (Heb7:1-5, 9-

Obey one law, obey all (Gal 5:3)
8. Worship of The Church: Singing
Expressed directive in the NT is a’capella
Speak, sing, make melody in the heart (Eph 5:19)
Teach, admonish, sing, grace in heart (Col 3:16)
Fruit of the lips (Heb 13:15)
9. Worship of The Church:
Communion
Only feast commanded (1 Cor 11:23 - 29)
Memorial observed weekly (Acts 20:7)
Only by Christians (members of the church (Matt
26:29)

Men to pray everywhere (1 Tim 2:1-8)
We pray to God, the Father (Mt 6:9)
Early church prayed (Acts 4:31, 6:6)
Women are not to take a leading role in any act of
worship where men are present (1Cor14:34)
