04-15-12 Bible study notes
1.
2. Do/Did you read the Bible?
• Listen? Romans 10:17
• Believe? John 1:12
• Confess? Matthew 10:32
• Repent? 2 Corinthians 7:9-10
• Baptism? Romans 6:3-4
3. • 23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s
glorious standard. 24 Yet God, with undeserved
kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this
through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty
for our sins. 25 For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice
for sin. People are made right with God when they
believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.
This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he
held back and did not punish those who sinned in times
past, 26 for he was looking ahead and including them in
what he would do in this present time. God did this to
demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and
just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight
when they believe in Jesus. Romans 3:23-26
4. Romans 5:7-9
•7 Now, most people would not be willing to die
for an upright person, though someone might
perhaps be willing to die for a person who is
especially good.
•8 But God showed his great love for us by
sending Christ to die for us while we were still
sinners.
•9 And since we have been made right in God’s
sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly
save us from God’s condemnation.

6. Romans 6:4-6
• 4 For we died and were buried with Christ by
baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead
by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may
live new lives.
• 5 Since we have been united with him in his death, we will
also be raised to life as he was.
• 6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with
Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are
no longer slaves to sin.
7. Psalm 51:1-2, 7
• 1 Have mercy on me, O God,
because of your unfailing love.
Because of your great compassion,
blot out the stain of my sins.
• 2 Wash me clean from my guilt.
Purify me from my sin.
• 7 Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
8. 2 Peter 3:17-18
• 17 I am warning you ahead of time, dear
friends. Be on guard so that you will not be
carried away by the errors of these wicked
people and lose your own secure footing.
• 18 Rather, you must grow in the grace and
knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
• All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.
9. Crown of Life
• 17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces
good deeds, it is dead and useless. 22 You see, his faith and
his actions worked together. His actions made his faith
complete. 24 So you see, we are shown to be right with God
by what we do, not by faith alone. (James 2:17, 22, 24)
• Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by
faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ
our Lord has done for us. 2 Because of our faith, Christ has
brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we
now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to
sharing God’s glory. (Romans 5:1-2)
