The highest shoot extension rate of 1.38 mm day -1 was recorded in organic estate compared to conventional estate (1.33 mm day -1 ).
In seedling fields, shoot extension was 1.52 mm day -1 in the conventional estate while in organic estate it was 1.48 mm day -1 . However, there were no significant differences in VP and seedling tea at p=0.05 level.
During the study period, tea trotrix and blister blight were found and such incidences were low in the organic system. Highest tea tortrix incidences were observed in the VP and seedling fields of the conventional estate
Blister blight incidences were also high in conventional estate. The results of pest and disease incidences were not statistically different both in VP and seedling at p=0.05
Mean fresh weight of the tipping was 966 kg ha -1 in Nahavilla estate. The mean number of shoots emerged was 30 per bush.
NV organic project showed sustainability indices and these can be used in organic certification
