2. Introduction
• Wireless Sensor Network
• Parameters of wireless sensor network that
have to be known at the beginning
• The research area
• Results
• Conclusion

3. Wireless Sensor Network (WSN)
• new fast evolving technology that can be used in
environmental and socioeconomic domain
• every wireless sensor network consists of:
– nodes equipped with sensors
– gateway (gathering point)
– server (long time storage, visualization)
• every node communicates with the defined node(s)
to direct the measured values to a gateway (depends
on the used topology)
• electromagnetic waves are used for communication

Network
• the used nodes – four Waspmote Plug&Sense,
produced by Libelium
• used sensors – temperature, relative humidity
• star topology
• communication was carried out on the basis of
802.15.4
– this protocol works in the range of 3.4 GHz, channel
0x0C (2.405 – 2.410 GHz)
• gathering point of data was gateway, Meshlium,
data were stored in local MySQL database
• observation period was from 8th April to 14th April
2014
10. Terrain Factors
• related to:
– landcover,
– obstacles in the communication path,
– property conditions,
– security issue,
– measured elements

11. Terrain Factors
• nodes were fixed at coniferous trees at a
height of 2 metres above the ground
• southwest orientation
• 10 minute recording intervals

12. www.geoinformatics.upol.cz
Results
• include the confirmation of transmission
protocol correctness
• visualization of average daily temperatures,
extreme temperatures and temperature
amplitudes

• the highest
temperature

Conclusion
• monitoring of temperature using wsn is realized in the real
time and with high density
• differences in measured temperature values are high even in
the small area
• the highest values of temperature amplitudes were recorded
by node A (13.92 °C), the lowest temperature amplitude was
recorded by node D (12.07 °C)
• this was a pilot study for testing of trasmission protocol and
investigating of differences between temperature values
measured under the same conditions in a small area
• measurements in larger area, with more nodes equipped with
more variety of sensors will be carried out during autumn
2014
