Founding of BioAM: A community of passionate BioBusiness professionals came together to form
Rochester’s first “Startup Community”. The community has grown to over 100 members in just 10 months.
•
BioAM in Boulder: Self funded trip to Boulder, CO to study one of the most successful
entrepreneurial startup communities.
•
Partnership with Healthcare.mn: Early on, BioAM found a great partner in Peter Kane’s
Healthcare.mn. This Twin Cities-based group is quickly becoming THE community for Minnesota health
tech.
•
Passage of Destination Medical Center (DMC) Initiative in Rochester: The
State of Minnesota passed a bill granting $425 million dollars in State aid to the DMC over 20 years.
Combined with the $5.5 billion private investment over the same time period, the future for BioBusiness
looks bright in Rochester.
•
Mayo BioBusiness Accelerator Coordinator Hired: Rochester Economic
Development Inc. hired Xavier Frigola to coordinate the Mayo BioBusiness Accelerator. We look forward to
what Xavier will do in 2014 to push BioBusiness forward in Rochester.
•
Global Entrepreneurship Week 2013: BioAM partnered with Cube Coworking to launch the
first Rochester Global Entrepreneurship Week. The week was filled with great entrepreneurial talks and
community events. BioAM held its first demo night featuring startups from Rochester and the Twin Cities.
•
Great BioBusinesses Continue to Emerge: Many businesses continue to emerge from
Mayo’s pipeline as well as independently in the city. BioMed, Omnis Pharma, Imanis Life Sciences and
InControl Biomedical
5. What are we doing in 2014
•
Founders Series: A series of talks by successful BioBusiness entrepreneurs. The purpose of the talks will be to inspire
and encourage area BioBusiness entrepreneurs. These events will be recorded and released to the public on the
BioAM YouTube page.
•
BioBusiness Directory: A database of all local BioBusinesses that will serve as a link to businesses, people,
technology, jobs and investors in our region.
•
DMC Community Input for Commercial Research and Tech: BioAM hopes to play a large role
in the DMC’s commercial research and technology community outreach.
•
Launch of "BioBusiness Brief" Online Magazine: We will launch a custom Flipboard magazine with
BioBuisness and entrepreneurial content from across the web curated by members of the BioAM community. This
magazine will be available on the web as well as Android and iOS mobile devices.
•
Build Bridges to Twin Cities, Fargo, and Madison: We will strengthen or bond with the Twin Cities
as well as identify communities and opportunities in Fargo, ND and Madison, WI.
•
Kansas City Startup Community: We will self-fund a trip to Kansas City to study the newly emerging
startup community in the KC area.
•
BioBiz Camp: A two day “unconference” of local BioBusiness steakholders
•
Blog Posts from the Community: Regular interviews and guest blog posts by community members on the
BioAM blog site.
