1. TABLE SAW SAFETY

2. SPECIFIC PURPOSE
• To rip boards to width and cross-cut them
to length.

3. SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES
1. Measure stock and make adjustments
when the saw is at a dead stop.
2. Use a push stick to push material past
the blade and clear away scraps. Never
use your fingers.
3. Raise blade ¼" higher than the stock
thickness.

4. Specific Safety Con’t
4. Never stand directly behind the saw. Stay off to
one side.
5. Never try to saw stock "FREEHAND". Use the
rip fence or miter gauge.
6. Never allow fingers to come closer than 5
inches to the blade.
7. Ask for help when ripping long pieces of stock.

5. Fill in the Blank!!!
• When RIPPING stock always use the
RIP FENCE and never use the MITER
GAUGE.
• When CROSSCUTTING stock always use
the MITER GAUGE and never use the
RIP FENCE.

6. Procedure for RIPPING stock.
1. Adjust blade perpendicular to the table and set height.
2. Adjust the rip fence to desired width using a tape
measure or ruler.
3. Lock the fence securely in place.
4. Place the jointed edge of the stock against the rip fence.
5. Stand off to the side opposite the rip fence and push
stock through the blade using a push stick.

7. Procedure for CROSSCUTTING stock.
• Set miter gauge square to the blade
• Put a pencil mark on the front edge of you stock
• Set the correct blade height depending on material
thickness.
• Hold the jointed edge of the stock firmly against the miter
gauge
• Slide both the stock and miter gauge along the table to
complete the cut.

8. What is a STOP BLOCK? Why use it?
A small block of wood clamped to the rip
fence or miter gauge which acts as a
length guide when cutting several pieces
the same length.

9. Operations Performed using the
Table Saw
• Ripping - A cutting action in the SAME
direction as the grain of the
wood
• Crosscut - A cutting action ACROSS the
grain of the wood
• Miter - Set the miter gauge so your cut is
not 90 degrees on the face of your
wood

10. Operations Con’t
• Bevel - Tilting the saw blade so you cut an angle
across the grain direction of the wood
• Rabbet - A channel cut out of the wood the
same direction as the grain using a
dado head
• Dado - A channel cut out of the wood the
across the direction of the grain using
a dado head
