QUESTION
What is the common
passage for food and
air?
YNXRAPH
ANSWER:
What is the common
passage for food and
air?
PHARYNX
QUESTION
This is the first part of the
Alimentary canal where
food passes through?
THOUM
ANSWER
This is the first part of the
Alimentary canal where
food passes through?
MOUTH
QUESTION
It carries the food down to
your stomach for temporary
storage.
PHAGUSESO
ANSWER
It carries the food down to
your stomach for temporary
storage.
ESOPHAGUS
QUESTION
It is a large J- shaped
organ.
MACHTOS
ANSWER
It is a large J- shaped
organ.
STOMACH
OBJECTIVES
A. trace the pathway of food In the
digestive system
B. explain how the organs of the
digestive system work together
to carry out digestion and
assimilation of nutrients
DIGESTIVE
SYSTEM
SONG

https://youtu.be/0O8wrh
EzDtI
BASED ON THE VIDEO,
ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS
1. What attracts us to eat?
2. Identify various parts of the
digestive system mentioned in the
song and tell the role that each part of
the digestive system plays.
GROUP
ACTIVITY
Describe the function of each organ in the
digestive system by matching column A
with column B. Write the letter of your
answer on the space provided before the
number. Trace the pathway of food in
the Digestive System by putting numbers
1 to 6 on Column C based on the
illustration given in Column B.
ACTIVITY QUESTION
1. How did you trace the
pathway of food in the
digestive system?
THE DIGESTIVE
SYSTEM
A JOURNEY INTO
MOUTH
• The intake of food starts from the
mouth.
• The solid food is broken down into
small pieces by the chewing action
of your teeth (Physical Digestion).
SALIVARY GLAND
produces SALIVA
PHARYNX
• Passage for food and air
• The epiglottis covers the
larynx to facilitate the
entrance of food into the
esophagus
ESOPHAGUS
Functions:
• The smooth muscles contract
regularly for the passage of food
down into the stomach
• Secrete mucus
• Moves food from the throat to the
stomach using muscle movement
called peristalsis
Approximately 10 inches (25cm) long
STOMACH
• The food in the stomach will
stimulate the gastric gland to
secrete gastric juice.
• Peristalsis in the stomach wall
churns the food and mixes it well
with the gastric juice
SMALL INTESTINE
• Most chemical digestion happens
in the duodenum.
• The pancreas produce pancreatic
juice and the liver produce bile.
These enzymes help to break
down fats, starches and proteins.
• The digested food is absorbed by
the villi of the small intestine,
especially the jejunum and the
ilium.
LARGE INTESTINE
• Absorbs water and mineral
salts from the undigested
food materials. The process
takes about 18-24 hours.
RECTUM
• The solid wastes
are stored in the
rectum.
ANUS
An opening where solid
waste are eliminated in a
process called defecation.
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM SONG
Video Courtesy:
https://youtu.be/8sDMVgw9d-c
1. In which part of the
food tube does the
digestive process takes
place?
2. Explain what role
does the stomach play
in the digestion?
1. Explain the statement,
“Digestion occur in a
tube”.
CONCEPTUALIZATION
2. How does the structure
of the small intestine
match its function in the
absorption of nutrients?
CONCEPTUALIZATION
3. Why do pancreas and
liver called as digestive
helpers rather than
digestive organs?
CONCEPTUALIZATION
APPLICATION
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF
ONE PART OF THE DIGESTIVE TRACT IS
MALFUNCTIONING?
RECAP
TRACE NOW THE PATHWAY OF FOOD
IN THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM. GIVE ME
THE COMPLETE TRACK WHERE THE
FOOD PASSES THROUGH
EVALUATION
Trace the pathway of food in the
digestive system by labeling the
main organs involved in the process
and in the spaces provided explain
how food is being processed in each
location.
ASSESSMENT RUBRICS
Points Indicators
25 Work is exceptional and impressive. Shows a distinctive and
sophisticated application of knowledge and skills.
20 Work exceeds the standard. Shows through and effective
application of knowledge and skills.
15 Work meets the standard, acceptable and displays the
application of knowledge and skills
10 Work does not yet meet the standard. Shows basic but
inconsistent application of knowledge and skills.
5 Work shows partial application of knowledge and skills. Lacks
depth or incomplete. Needs considerable development.
ASSIGNMENT
Make a story illustrating how
the digestive system work,
pretend that you are a piece of
food (your choice) and tell
your journey through the
digestive system.
Thank you!
