What about the nomination and award process?
Applications were reviewed to assess compliance with established criteria set out in the call.
12 nominations were deemed to comply with Prize specifications (mid September).
The Glinka WSD Selection Committee assessed the candidates shortlisted by the Secretariat, assisted by an evaluation tool developed by the Secretariat itself.

The second Glinka World Soil Prize was awarded to the Asociación Argentina de Productores en Siembra Directa (AAPRESID). Pedro Vigneau
AAPRESID, “sustenabilidad sin frontiera” from Argentina made a clear contribution in the dissemination of sustainable soil practices in the region and beyond. It s an open network of innovative agricultural farmers exceptionally receptive to science and to technological advances.

The winner, we call him Laureate, was highly recommended to attend the awarding ceremony, during WSD2017 on the 5th of December and was given the opportunity to deliver a keynote address.. During WSD Rome event, Mr Da Silva handed the Prize to the Director of the Geographical Institute Augustin Codazzi, also called IGAC, Mr De Nieto.
IGAC is responsible for basic carthographic material of Colombia, soil data, information repository and for its key role in developing capacity on soil survey in Latin America (through trainings).
IGAC was prized for its recent publication – Soils and Lands of Colombia,
an outstanding effort made in less than 3 years to photograph the morphology and the economic and social relevance of soils in the country
Due attention will be paid over the years to ensure appropriate balance among laureates with regard to gender, geographical regions and of course main soil disciplines. We would like to implement a map covering Glinka nominees and winners…
This is the last year we will have the Glinka / New Ideas, new communication for the largest outreach possible, a brand new webpage for the 2018 grand challenge! Increase the engagement!
We would like that Glinka becomes one of the key awareness raising platform. In order to confirm the momentum generated by the IYS2015 and to showcase examples of direct contribution to the preservation of the environment, food security and poverty alleviation…
For the PA:
1. For the moment we can take note of the successful inception of the Glinka and the foreseen progress for the 2018 edition.
2. We also would like to kindly invite our partners to disseminate the call in order to assure that the process is inclusive and submissions come from different regional partnerships.
3. We would also invite resources partners to financially contribute to the implementation of this initiative beyond 2019 since Russia will sponsor it for a limited period (2016-2019) and we would like it to continue.
Thank you for your attention!
