Folio thinking is a process where students engage in collecting, organizing, reflecting on and connecting their learning experiences to develop the ability to concisely discuss what they have learned. E-Learning Culture on the Move.

One of the most significant tensions in the convergence of technology and education is how the promise/threat of ‘disruption’ comes up against theories, practices and structures of formal and informal education. Disruption in educational technology contexts has come to be aligned with neo-liberal discourses of efficiency, enhancement, personalisation, scale and automation; and we can be forgiven for cynicism about its critical and creative potential in education. This talk aims to reanimate the debate by reframing disruption in terms of inventiveness, provocation, uncertainty and the concept of ‘not-yetness’. Focusing on the recent AHRC-funded Artcasting project, and with other examples drawn from the work of the Centre for Research in Digital Education at the University of Edinburgh, it argues that inventive digital approaches can help us develop critical responses to assumptions about the role of the digital in contexts including higher education, museums and galleries.

Openness, Inclusion and Participation in Museums

Learning to learn has become an overarching theme, and as a result, interest in the theory of heutagogy, or the study of self-determined learning, is on the rise. This webinar would provide an overview of the theory as well as research- and practice-based examples of how we can help guide our students along the pedagogy-andragogy-heutagogy (PAH) continuum to become more self-determined learners.

Our global, local and even corporate challenges get more dynamic and complex. Happily so do our tools and media to design, facilitate and govern the structures and processes. Many models, theories and practices from different disciplines are involved.
Truism: You cannot unravel a knot in dimension n in a space of lower dimension n-1.
Consequence: A successful path might involve at least a handful of approaches.
(1) Cultural Evolution, Organisational Development and Evolution
… to have a perspective of progress and the momentum of „learning from failures“
(2) Social Cognition, Semantics & Knowledge Management
… understanding is at the core, finding a common language is a must.
(3) Social Capital Theory (Putnam)

A lot of the steering is about finding common language and connected perspectives, common goals; accept cultural differences without the trap of indifference. Putnam’s approach teaches how to grow dynamics in communities, use active bridging and linking to create access to new resources.
Culture, values and virtues are key of course. If a certain culture level is not part of the setting in the beginning they have to be created, curated and stabilized first.
Evolution allows for disruptions, leaps and surprises, but also comprises a certain path dependency.
BACKGROUND:
Starting point: Innovation and knowledge management in complex social settings is tricky and often fails when there is not a good level of systems thinking involved. That happens for projects in civil society as well as in corporate settings which strive to facilitate innovation culture and meaningful conversations.

A Brief History of Knowledge Building (Artical)
This document provides a brief history of Knowledge Building, starting with early research on knowledge transformation and intentional learning processes that lead to expertise development. It describes how the first networked collaborative learning environment was developed to support such processes. The Knowledge Building approach has since expanded internationally across disciplines and education levels, with partnerships between teachers, researchers, and governments. While related to constructivism, Knowledge Building has distinct characteristics like being intentional and for the benefit of a community.
Learning Theory

Mark Nichols discussed how education aims to enlighten students by transforming how they think, not just what they think. He argued that while access to information has increased, true enlightenment requires developing critical thinking skills. Looking to the future, he questioned whether new technologies could actually limit access to information and reverse progress made since the Enlightenment period.

Our global, local and even corporate challenges get more dynamic and complex. Happily so do our tools and media to design, facilitate and govern the structures and processes. Many models, theories and practices from different disciplines are involved.
Truism: You cannot unravel a knot in dimension n in a space of lower dimension n-1.
Consequence: A successful path might involve at least a handful of approaches.
(1) Cultural Evolution, Organisational Development and Evolution
… to have a perspective of progress and the momentum of „learning from failures“
(2) Social Cognition, Semantics & Knowledge Management
… understanding is at the core, finding a common language is a must.
(3) Social Capital Theory (Putnam)
… to raise the social and communicative energies of teams and communities
(4) Collective Intelligence & Social Innovation
… wisdom of crowds, creativity methods, open space approaches, the Appreciative Inquiry stance etc
A lot of the steering is about finding common language and connected perspectives, common goals; accept cultural differences without the trap of indifference. Putnam’s approach teaches how to grow dynamics in communities, use active bridging and linking to create access to new resources.
Culture, values and virtues are key of course. If a certain culture level is not part of the setting in the beginning they have to be created, curated and stabilized first.
Evolution allows for disruptions, leaps and surprises, but also comprises a certain path dependency.
BACKGROUND:
Starting point: Innovation and knowledge management in complex social settings is tricky and often fails when there is not a good level of systems thinking involved. That happens for projects in civil society as well as in corporate settings which strive to facilitate innovation culture and meaningful conversations.

A Brief History of Knowledge Building (Artical)
This document provides a brief history of Knowledge Building, starting with early research on knowledge transformation and intentional learning processes that lead to expertise development.
