Deloitte - All to Play for Football Money League 2013 - Sport Business Groupjeremylepaulbinet
Real Madrid generated over €500 million in revenues for the first time in 2011/12, becoming the first club in any sport to surpass that revenue threshold in a single year. They maintained the top spot in the Money League rankings for an eighth consecutive year. Manchester City climbed five spots to seventh place thanks to revenue growth of over 50% as their investment in players led them to their first Premier League title. While all the top 20 clubs were from Europe's 'big five' leagues, clubs from emerging markets like Brazil and clubs hosting upcoming World Cups have potential to challenge European dominance in future Money League rankings.
Welcome to the 16th edition of the Deloitte Football Money League, in which we profile the highest earning clubs in the world’s most popular sport. The Money League is published eight months after the end of the 2011/12 season, and is therefore the most contemporary and reliable analysis of clubs’ relative financial performance.
Sources of funding for football clubs in the european market Nicolò Guberti
This document discusses sources of funding for European football clubs. It begins by outlining the evolution of club financing models from early reliance on ticket sales, subsidies and sponsorships (SSSL model) to increased revenues from media rights, commercial activities, and globalization (MCMMG model). The main goals and assets of football clubs are also described. The document then analyzes various internal and external sources of financing for clubs, including revenues from matchday activities, broadcasting rights, commercial activities, and player trading. It also discusses debt financing options for clubs such as loans, bonds, and structured finance transactions, noting the risks involved. An example is provided of Goldman Sachs and Bank of America Merrill Lynch providing a £400 million loan to
16 exploring capital markes final post malmo_6 sept 2018Antonio Boccia
The worldwide broadcasting of sport events by global media conglomerates and the rapid acceptance and development of sport sponsorship have changed the traditional business model of football clubs, which historically has relied on match day revenues. Football clubs now must commercialize in order to remain financially competitive and sustainable in light of increased costs. Reaching these objectives may require investment in new technologies, personnel, manufacturing, new or renovated venues and marketing initiatives. A primary question for many football clubs is where to obtain the additional capital needed for these specific investments? There is a variety of options available to clubs interested in raising capital, including those potentially offered by the capital markets, such as: (1) Issuing corporate bonds; (2) Initiating an IPO (Initial Public Offering); (3) Integrating a football club’s fan base into a shareholder structure.
This document analyzes the implementation of UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations using Manchester United as a case study. It examines Manchester United's financial statements from 2010-2013 and finds that the club was able to meet UEFA's standards. However, the club's high salaries and debt in relation to profitability and solvency need to be considered. UEFA introduced Financial Fair Play rules in 2011-2012 to reduce unreasonable club spending and prevent huge debt levels, ensuring funding comes from the club's own financial resources.
Football Transfer Review 2012 by Prime Time Sport EngPrime Time Sport
This document provides a summary and analysis of European football finances and transfers in 2011/12. It includes sections on technical details, finances of top European leagues, summer transfers, squad reviews of La Liga teams, and comparisons of Barcelona and Real Madrid. Manchester United had the highest revenues in 2010/11, while Barcelona aimed to eliminate losses in 2011/12. Real Madrid and Barcelona generated over half of total revenues in La Liga.
This document provides an analysis of competitive balance in the top European football leagues over the past 20 years. It focuses on the Premier League and La Liga. It finds that competitive balance has declined as the gap between the financial resources and performances of the top teams versus lower teams has increased. The top teams in both leagues have come to dominate titles and Champions League places. It suggests implementing a salary cap to reduce this imbalance and make the leagues more competitive and profitable. This would help bridge the financial gap between teams and open up player markets.

Soccerex Transfer Review 2016-17 by Prime Time Sport LaLiga Santander editionPrime Time Sport
The document shows the average TV income per team and season in LaLiga, excluding Real Madrid and Barcelona, from 2014-15 to 2016-17. The average TV income was €28.1 million in 2014-15, €38.2 million in 2015-16, and is estimated to be €54.9 million in 2016-17.
The document shows investments in player signings by 5 major sports leagues from 2015-2016. The Premier League invested the most with 1420 million euros spent on player signings. In total, investments across the 5 leagues amounted to 3389 million euros, with the Premier League alone accounting for 42% of total spending.
The pound depreciated against the euro from July 2015 to July 2016, falling from 1.412 euros per pound to 1.208 euros per pound according to Bank of England figures. A hypothetical 110 million euro transfer that would have cost an English club £91.1 million in July 2015 would have cost £77.9 million in July 2016, a 17% decrease, due to the weaker pound.
The document shows average TV income per team and season in the Premier League from 2010-2019. TV income per team has increased each period, from 69 million euros in 2010-2013 to 184 million euros in 2016-2019 for the team with the highest income. The team with the lowest income earned 111 million euros in 2013-2016 and 121 million euros in 2016-2019.

Conclusions Football Transfer Review Brasil (1 de 3)
Brazilian club football is becoming stronger than ever with 2 digit revenue growth and
increased player purchase power. Spending in new players has increased 61% in 2010 to 79mio$
Palmeiras has spent 24,2mio$ in new players (31% of total spending) which did not help to
achieve good sporting results. Top 3 spending ranking is completed by Atlético Mineiro and
Cruzeiro
Jorge Valdivia return from Al-Ain to Palmeiras is the highest spending signing at 8,3mio$
Increased purchase power has permitted Brazilian clubs to bring back success Brazilian
players in Europe such as Deco, Cicinho or Belletti.
Atlético Mineiro, Guaraní and Palmeiras are the teams with highest number of new players.
Corinthians and Sao Paulo, the teams with least squad renewal
Total player sales from Brasileirao Serie A teams was up 18% to 170mio$. Internacional has
been the highest selling team with a total player sales value of 38mio$, followed by Sao Paulo
(30mio$). Average cost per player was up 61% to 220k$
73. 73
Brazilian football has a high player rotation that does not help teams to achieve stability and
control costs. Such rotation is above top 5 European leagues
Palmeiras gets confirmed as the team with most changes, as it also leads the ranking of number
of exits (23). Santos, Botafogo and Vasco de Gama, the teams with least player exits
As opposed to what happened in all tope European leagues, Brasileirao has experimented a net
increase in the number of players in the squads
Despite still being #1 players provider in the world, Brazilian football exports have stopped
increasing in the last years. European football financial constraints suggests that Brazilian clubs
– Number of players that left Brazil in 2009 was down 14% to 1,017
– Total value of player exports was down 25% to 177mio$
– 75% of exports value is concentrated in Europe
– Portugal is the country with more Brazilian players (154 just in Sagres Liga)
– Hernanes move fro Sao Paulo to Lazio was the most expensive of the season at 19mio$
– Brazil exports more players to Europe than Argentina (except in Spain and Italy)
– Internacional (175) and Sao Paulo (112) have sold players for 287mio$ over the last 6 years
Conclusions Football Transfer Review Brasil (2 de 3)
74. 74
Squad analysis relevant data:
– The average age of Brasileirao Serie A squads is 25,0, lower than any of the tope European
leagues
– Ceara is the team with the most experimented squad (27,9 years old average). Santos has
the youngest squad (22,9) and the highest number of U21 players (18)
– Sao Paulo has the most stable squad (average 2,7 years stay per player). Gremio Prudente
the least (1,1 years)
– Santos has the highest number of home grown players (14), followed by Sao Paulo (13).
Ceara and Atl. Goianense have only 1 each
– Only 4,7% of players in Brasileirao serie A squads are not originally from Brasil. % of
foreigners is much higher in European leagues (ie Premier League 64,4%)
The analysis of managers information included in the study reveals that Brazilian executives are
much less patient than their European colleagues:
– None of Brasileirao Serie A managers has been in the post for more than 1 year. Average
stay is 4 months, much lower than any of the top European Leagues
– Up to 30 managers were replaced during 2009 season
– All Brasileirao Serie A teams have Brazilian managers
