More than 550 million people worldwide suffer from hearing loss. Around 60 million people have acute hearing loss or worse (Smulders et al., 2016; Stevens et al., 2013). Cochlear implants are one of the most significant advances in contemporary medicine (CI) (Farinetti et al., 2014). Many infants with a CI before age 12 experience typical language development due to the procedure (Birman et al., 2016).

The document summarizes evidence from 166 studies across 64 interventions for children with cerebral palsy. It finds that 24% of interventions are proven effective, receiving a 'green light' recommendation. However, 70% have uncertain effects and require ongoing outcome measurement (yellow light). 6% are proven ineffective and should be discontinued (red light). Effective interventions reflect current knowledge in neuroscience and pharmacology, but all only address a single level of the ICF model. The review provides clinicians a comprehensive overview of the state of evidence for cerebral palsy interventions.
Reliability of Med-El Cochlear Implants in children. The Romania Experience.IJERA Editor
Introduction: Early detection of hearing loss significantly lowered the age of cochlear implantation. A failed CI
is a very problematic issue for the child and family and seems to be, for the moment, inevitable. This is a
retrospective review aimed to evaluate the reliability of Med-El devices implanted in children in Romania.
Materials and Methods: We designed a questionnaire to assess the incidence, the time elapsed and the reason
of total device failure. Medical-surgical data were collected from children who received Med-El cochlear
implants since the start of the National Cochlear Implant Program in 2001.
Results: There were 256 patients included. Failure Rate (6,64%) and Cumulative Survival Rate (95,31%) at 5
years were calculated. The majority of the hard and soft failures were encountered in Pulsar devices. Flap
necrosis was the most frequent medical/surgical reason for re-plantation. There was only one case of
posttraumatic device failure. Time elapsed to device failure was short – 22 months on average.
Conclusion: Cochlear implant reliability data should be considered during the choice of an implant for each
individual patient. This study confirms the safety and efficacy of Med-El cochlear implants in children for both
ceramic and non-ceramic devices.
This document outlines a research study that aims to assess the effectiveness of structured health education on knowledge regarding post-surgical care among cataract patients admitted to Chirayu Hospital in Bhopal, India. The study will use a pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design with 60 cataract patients. Participants will complete a pre-test questionnaire to assess baseline knowledge, receive a structured health education program, and complete the same questionnaire as a post-test to measure the impact of the education. The study hypothesizes that post-test knowledge scores will be significantly higher than pre-test scores after the education intervention.

The document summarizes a qualitative study that explored barriers and enablers to implementing an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program across several hospitals affiliated with the University of Toronto. Semistructured interviews were conducted with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses. The interviews identified several common barriers, including lack of resources, poor communication, resistance to change, and patient factors. However, interviewees generally supported implementing a standardized ERAS program with guidelines based on evidence, education of staff and patients, and standardized order sets. Identifying these barriers and enablers is an important first step to successfully adopting an ERAS program.

Effectiveness of Stretch Interventions for Children With Neuromuscular Disabi...Sarah Craig
This systematic review examined the effectiveness of stretch interventions for children with neuromuscular disabilities. Sixteen studies were included, with sample sizes ranging from 14 to 1110 participants. The studies evaluated casting, orthoses, passive stretching, and supported standing programs. Low-grade evidence suggests casting can temporarily increase ankle range of motion. Orthoses may improve gait parameters while worn. Supported standing programs may improve bone mineral density. However, there is limited evidence stretch interventions benefit body functions and structures. The evidence is also inconclusive regarding whether stretching prevents contractures or impacts activity or participation. Overall, the methodological quality of included studies was poor.

CINECA webinar slides: Ethics/ELSI considerations - From FAIR to fair data sh...CINECAProject
The FAIR principles – standing for Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability – have become the guiding principles for the wider sharing of research data in the life sciences. While FAIR provides guidance for the management of data as well as tools and workflows, the institutional conditions and organizational challenges associated with data sharing need to be taken into account to ensure responsible and fair data practices. This requires considering the context of legal requirements, for instance the principle of fairness and transparency in GDPR, expectations of research participants/data subjects, societal aspects and the “ethics work” that is an integral part of data flows, as well as fairness, equity and benefit sharing within transnational collaborations, which is of utmost importance. This webinar will, from the perspective of ethical, legal and societal implications (ELSI), discuss this broader context of responsible and fair data sharing associated with FAIR.
The “How FAIR are you” webinar series and hackathon aim at increasing and facilitating the uptake of FAIR approaches into software, training materials and cohort data, to facilitate responsible and ethical data and resource sharing and implementation of federated applications for data analysis.
The CINECA webinar series aims to discuss ways to address common challenges and share best practices in the field of cohort data analysis, as well as distribute CINECA project results. All CINECA webinars include an audience Q&A session during which attendees can ask questions and make suggestions. Please note that all webinars are recorded and available for posterior viewing.

This document discusses the need for an ethical framework to guide translational genomics as it progresses through different stages from basic research to clinical application and population health impact. It notes that current debates around returning individual research results rely on distinguishing between the ethics of research versus clinical care, but that translational genomics blurs this distinction. The document calls for a new vision of ethics that recognizes multiple applicable frameworks across the translational process and provides guidance for navigating conflicts between them. It argues such an approach is needed to inform issues like returning results from large-scale genomic studies involving both research and clinical care.

Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
