3. MRF
•MRF is India’s no.1 tire manufacturing
company.
•Started in the year 1946 by K. M Maaman
Mappillai as a small toy balloon unit.
•MD- Arun Maaman
•Head Quarter- Chennai, India
•In 1960 ventured manufacturing tire.
•Sister concern of Malayala Manorama.
4. MRF Product
Tire
Manufactured various tires to passengers
cars, two wheelers, trucks, buses, tractors, light
commercial vehicles and off the road tires.
Conveyor belts
it manufactures conveyor belt with wide range
of grades. It has a range of application in industries
like mining, Ports, thermal power plants, cement
plant, steel etc.
8. 1.COMPOUNDING&MIXING
•Compounding is the operation of bringing
together natural rubber process oil, carbon
black, accelerator and other additives, each of
which contributes certain properties to which
is called ‘ a compound’..
•To obtain a homogeneous mixture, they are
mixed at a high temperatures in a massive
mixer.
•Output of compounding and mixing: Cooled
Rubber Slabs
9. 2.COMPONENT PREPARATION
Components preparation falls into three classes
process
Out put
1.Extrusion-Process of
Tread; improve wear and traction
applying heat and pressure on the in any environment
compound and additional mixing
of the compound.
Sidewall; provide good abrasion
and environmental resistance for
the sides of tires
2.calendaring-process of
squeezing the compound into a
thin sheet, fabric calendars
produce an upper and lower
rubber sheet with a layer of fabric
in between. Steel calendars
produce the same with steel
cords. Calendars utilize
downstream equipment for
shearing and slicing calendared
Belt package; Give the tire
strength while allowing it to
remain flexible in its structure
Body ply; Provide tire structure
and strength
Inner liner; Assure that tire will
hold high –pressure inside without
the air gradually diffusing through

tensile wire forming its
backbone .The strands are
aligned into a ribbon coated
with rubber adhesion
11. 3.TIRE BUILDING
The tire building machine pre-shapes radial tires into
a form very close to their final dimensions to make
sure the many components are in their proper
positions before the tire goes into the mold.
12. 4.CURING
The curing press is where tires attain their final
shapes and tread pattern. Hot molds like giant waffle
irons shape and vulcanize the tire. The molds are then
engraved with the tread pattern and sidewall
marking.
13. 5.TIRE INSPECTION
Professional visual inspectors and automated
inspection machine detect the slightest defect
on the final product.
Some tires are sampled from the production
line and x-rayed to detect any hidden
weaknesses or internal failures.
