First, it was known as Sérdica.Later, as
Triaditsa, Sredets, and finally, Sofia.
In1832 it was conquered by the Ottoman
Empire, that’s why Sofia has many mosques and
turkish baths.
The 17th of September is “The day of Sofia”
, because it is the Christian date of Santa Sofia.
