Problems caused by improper drainage systems to our environment are more. So, to decrease these problems there are some ways and methods are available. By using them we can decrease those problems.
2. What is a drainage system ?
In geomorphology, a drainage
system is the pattern formed by
the streams, rivers and lakes in a
particular drainage basin.

3. A drainage basin or catchment basin is an
extent or an area of land where all surface
water from rain, melting snow, or ice
converges to a single point at a lower
elevation, usually the exit of the basin, where
the waters join another body of water, such as
a river, lake, reservoir, estuary, wetland, sea,
or ocean

5. Problems arise with improper drainage
system.
Formation of stagnant pools providing places to the
disease causing mosquitoes and other germs and they
are very harmfull if they are located in living areas.
They also pollute the Earth's surface and cause damage
to soil which is the major cause for spreading diseases.

6. 1. Flooding : The immediate effects of
flooding include loss of human life, damage
to property, destruction of crops and other
plants, loss of livestock
Poorly maintained drainage systems and poor waste
management habits can adversely affect our
environment in the following ways :

7. 2. Erosion: The absence of good
drainage systems can cause erosion
problems. This has been experienced in
many areas of the world, where roads
have been washed away and gullies
created as a result of flooding.

8. 3. Diseases: Deterioration of health is another
and major effect of flooding, due to the increase in
waterborne diseases and unsanitary conditions.
Stagnation of water occurs when water passages
are blocked. This makes the people around such
environments susceptible to infections from
mosquitoes and other insects. We are exposed to
numerous air and water borne diseases if we have
our environments polluted with stagnant water.

9. 1.Drainage Ditches
By providing proper Drainage ditches we
can decrease the drainage intensity by
allowing the waste water mixed with plastic,
waste food etc. to flow away from the
surroundings. So, that we can also decrease
the problems causing diseases.
Improper Drainage Ditches may also cause
water stagnation. Take care while providing
these Ditches.

10. 2. DRAINAGE NETS
These nets capture gross pollutants carried
by stormwater from local road network
before those pollutants are discharged and
contaminate the natural environment at the
down stream end of the outlet area. Fig : Drainage Nets
11. As a result the drainage nets have collected
370kgs of Garbage including food packaging,
bottles, sand and leaves from trees. The debris
is later transported to a recycling center which
processes biodegradable waste and turns it into
fertilizer.
Also ensures that the habitat of the
wildlife is provoked and minimises
the risks of wildlife being caught in
the nets.

12. It is important for Government to focus on these on
type of initiatives and realise that
“ small actions have big impacts. “
13. IF WE SAVE OUR ENVIRONMENT,
IT WILL DEFINITELY SAVE US.
