This document contains two summaries:
1) Krishna teaches that one should tolerate temporary unhappiness and distress because the soul is eternal. The body dies but the soul lives on. One should focus on duty and know that difficult periods are temporary.
2) A story is told of King Solomon testing his minister Benaiah. He tasks Benaiah with finding a magic ring, though they both know it does not exist. On the eve of Sukkot, Benaiah finds a ring engraved with words meaning "this too shall pass," referring to the temporary nature of happiness and sadness.

WHO AM I
You are not this body; you are spirit self
The body goes on changing, but the change is never in
self
Lesson-04
KRISHNA’S THIRD INSTRUCTION: JUST TOLERATE
TEMPORARY UNHAPPINESS BECAUSE THE SOUL IS
ETERNAL. THE SOUL DOES NOT DIE WHEN THE BODY IS
DEAD.
One has to follow prescribed rules and regulations of
one’s duty in spite of inconveniences. This is true for any
endeavor, whether material or spiritual. Krishna is
teaching all of us how to deal with all kinds of distress in
this world. We should know that the distress is only for
time being and it will go away just as winter and summer
come and go. Knowing this we should toleratesuch
distress and do our duty.
Mantra to keep going – “and this too shall pass”
2. One day Solomon decided to humble Benaiah ben
Yehoyada, his most trusted minister. He said to him,
"Benaiah, there is a certain ring that I want you to bring to
me. I wish to wear it for Sukkot which gives you six
months to find it."
"If it exists anywhere on earth, your majesty," replied
Benaiah, "I will find it and bring it to you, but what
makes the ring so special?" "It has magic powers,"
answered the king. "If a happy man looks at it, he
becomes sad, and if a sad man looks at it, he becomes
happy."Solomon knew that no such ring existed in the
world, but he wished to give his minister a littletaste of
humility.
Spring passed and then summer, and still Benaiah had no
idea where he could find the ring. On the night before
Sukkot, he decided to take a walk in one of the poorest
quarters of Jerusalem. He passed by a merchant who had
begun to set out the day's wares on a shabby carpet.
"Have you by any chance heard of a magic ring that
makes the happy wearer forget his joy and the broken-
hearted wearer forget his sorrows?" asked Benaiah.
He watched the grandfather take a plain gold ring from
his carpet and engrave something on it. When Benaiah
read the words on the ring, his face broke out in a wide
smile.
3. That night, the entire city welcomed the holiday of Sukkot
with great festivity. "Well, my friend," said Solomon,
"Have you found what I sent you after?" All the ministers
laughed and Solomon himself smiled.
To everyone's surprise, Benaiah held up a small gold ring
and declared, "Here it is, your majesty!" As soon as
Solomon read the inscription, the smile vanished from his
face. The jeweler had written threeHebrew letterson the
gold band: "gimel, zayin, yud", which began the words
"Gam zeh ya'avor" -- "This too shall pass."
MORAL: So toleratehappinessand distressknowing
them to be temporaryand do your duty. That is the
mantra to keep going.
KRISHNA’S FOURTH INSTRUCTION: DON’T BE
ATTACHED TO THE TEMPORARY BODY
We may not perceive, but our body is changing every
moment without our notice. Only the soul is permanent.
Knowing this we should not be proud of or overly
attached to the body.
Prince charming
There was one Prince Charming. He used to think that he
was more beautiful than demigods. One day the demigods
come to see him. Prince asks: “How do I look?”Demigods
4. reply: “You were more beautiful when you were
sleeping.” The surprised Prince: “What do you mean?
Have I changed within few hours or what?” Demigods:
“Yes, we can see what you and your servants can’t see.
Your vision is imperfect.” Then to prove this they show a
glassful of water to his servants. When the servants go
out, demigods remove a spoonful of water. Servants come
but can’t detect it. Demigods infer: “Similarly your
beauty is deterioratingmoment to moment.” Prince
Charming comes to his senses. “I don’t want to be
besotted for something so fleeting. I should be concerned
with that which is eternal.”He never again looks into a
mirror and in course of time renounces his throneand
becomes a monk.
MORAL: The body is changingimperceptiblybut the soul
is permanent. The soul shouldbe given more importance.
