Demo presented at 16th International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertations ETD 2013 organized by Hongkong University Libraries, Hong Kong between 22nd September to 26th September.http://lib.hku.hk/etd2013/programme.html#23
1. ABCD for ETD repositories
Short demo
by S. Dhamdhere and
E. de Smet
2. Author submission
• Authors as institutional members get a login
password
• After logging in they get a simplified ABCD
Central screen
– Only ‘data entry’ function is accessible
– Only DUBCORE database is provided
– Based on a dedicated ‘author’ user-profile
4. Author’s view on DC database
• The author’s profile allows to browse the
database and add one or more records
• Records can have a protection code
(‘password’)
• After creating the metadata record, the author
can create the URL and full-text field by simply
selecting the PDF for uploading into the server
7. Author document upload
• After creating the metadata record, the author
can upload the document
– In PDF format
– In other doc-formats supported by TIKA
• A dialog box simply allows to identify the
document to be uploaded
• After upload the URL and full-text are added
in 2 dedicated fields
9. Author document uploaded
• After identifying the
document for
uploading, the
autmoated process is :
– Document file copied
into originals folder
– URL added into
dedicated field
– Full-text added into
dedicated field
– Full-text word-indexed
12. End-user earch through OPAC
• The repository database(s) can be added to the ABCD
Site along with catalogs and other resources of the
ABCD Metasearch
• Using metasearch repository is searched along with
catalogs
• Clicking on the repository link opens the OPAC on that
database
• Free-text and advanced (Boolean) searches can be
performed
• Searches both on text and metadata are possible
• Search result ready for viewing, printing, sending etc.

Hinweis der Redaktion
A special ABCD-profile for authors is created to allow simple adding a record with document
The author after loggin in only gets the DC-repository database for data-entry
Authors can create records, view them and edit the ones for which they have the protection code (this last feature not yet fully implemented). After the metadata are added, the URL and document text can be simply added by an upload dialog-box
Author’s view on an existing record
Author’s worksheet for creating a new entry into the repository
PDF’s and, if TIKA (Apache/Java) installed, other documents can be automatically converted into text and both URL and text are automatically added into user-defined separate fields
Here we see an example of the author’s document file selection for uploading
After uploading the system automatically processes the document : copied into dedicated folder, URL added and full-text added and word-indexed
This is the first part of the author-created record view with the URL and beginning of the text
This is the same newly author-created record at the end showing the metadata fields
End-users can start from the ABCD Site for meta-search or directl search into the repository
In the CMS-created ABCD Site one can add any local or remote (ISIS-based) database
Here we see an example of a simple ‘Google’-style search with two words ‘CALIBER’ and ‘INFLIBNET’
The same keywords can be identified by index consultation in the advanced search
Boolean combinations can be defined on each selected search key
Here we see the result of an OPAC search in the DUBCORE database
