2. Launched in 1986, the health insurance industry has grown significantly mainly due to
liberalization of economy and general awareness. Health Insurance in India is a growing
segment of Indiaâs economy. The Indian Healthcare insurance industry is worth INR 60,497
crores with a compounded annual growth rate of approximately 42.3 percent between 2010
and 2015. The prime factor of growth is increase in awareness. According to World Bank
report, 99% of Indians will face financial crunch in case of any critical illness. Hence there is
a need of health insurance for everyone.

3. 1. Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana

4. 2. Rashtriya Swasthiya Bima Yojana(RSBY)
â˘RSBY has been launched by Ministry of labour and employement on 1st April 2008.
⢠Provide heath insurance coverage for Below Poverty Line(BPL).
⢠Hospitalization coverage upto Rs 30,000 for most of the diseases.
⢠Beneficiaries need to pay only Rs 30 as registration fee.

3. Employement state insurance scheme(ESIS)
â˘Socio economic protection to worker population and their dependants.
⢠Any person who dies because of employement injury or occupational hazard are
entitled to a monthly pension called depedant benefit.
The rate of contribution by employer is 4.75% of the wages
payable to employees. The employeesâ contribution is at the rate
of 1.75% of the wages payable to an employee.

6. 6. Janashree Bima Yojana
⢠Janashree Bima Yojana (JBY) was launched on 10th August 2000.
⢠45 occupational groups have been covered under this scheme.
⢠It provides life insurance protection to people who are below poverty line or
marginally above poverty line.
7.Universal Health Insurance Scheme (UHIS)
⢠Provides for reimbursement of medical expenses upto Rs.30,000/- towards
⢠Hospitalization floated amongst the entire family, death cover due to an accident @
Rs.25,000/- to the earning head of the family and compensation due to loss of earning
of the earning member @ Rs.50/- per day upto maximum of 15 days.
⢠Target only the BPL families.
â˘The premium subsidy has been enhanced from Rs.100 to Rs.200 for an individual,
Rs.300 for a family of five and Rs.400 for a family of seven, without any reduction in
benefits.

According to official data published in THE HINDU, the number of people covered by
health insurance in India could be far fewer than estimated. Only 21.62 crore people, or
17 per cent of the total population, were covered by health insurance at the end of March
2014. As there is a huge potential in the healthcare insurance industry, so the current
government is working very hard on insurance schemes. In budget 2016, government
introduces new scheme, PM Jan Aushadhi Yojana to be strengthened and 300 generic
drug store to be opened.
