The Utah Transportation Coalition aims to secure $11.3 billion in new transportation funding through 2040. - 3. Mission: We collaborate with our partners to make smart and sustainable transportation choices and to secure adequate, stable and long term funding to support a high quality of life and economic growth in Utah.
- 4. OBJECTIVES: Fund Unified Plan: Secure broad support for funding for $11.3 billion in new revenue for the objectives and projects include in the 2040 Unified Transportation Plan. Airport Rebuild: Support the rebuild of the Salt Lake City International Airport and development of an aerotroplis concept. Grand Boulevards: Support vision of Grand Boulevard (5th and 6th South) entry and exit to Salt Lake City Wasatch Summit: Support vision and development of Mountain Transportation system into Wasatch Front canyons. Uintah Basin: Support Uintah Basin energy and transportation infrastructure.

- Wes welcome everyone to chamberBishop Burton welcomes and introduces the Utah Transportation Coalition , notes this is formerly named Utah Mobility CoalitionEach Speaker will have a few minutes and we will hold questions till all presenters are finishedIntroduce and thank our speakers We will first hear from UDOT Executive Director, Carlos Braceras followed by UTA General Manager, Michael Allegra and Wasatch Front Regional Council Executive Director Andrew Gruber.
- Why donât we thank our speaker for sharing their time with us (applause)Again, I would like to thank you for joining us this afternoon at our open house to learn more about the Utah Transportation Coalition. Iâd like to share with you a brief video about the coalition from a recent press event we held to highlighting the economic benefits to investing in our transportation infrastructure. Marty Video (3 Minutes)Â
- As Marty mentioned â the mission of the Utah Transportation Coalition is to collaborate with our partners to make smart and sustainable transportation choices and to secure adequate, stable and long term funding to support a high quality of life and economic growth in Utah. Our Transportation System Matters for the Whole Business Community, this is why the Bishop and myself decided to become co-chairs of the coalition.At stake is not only billions of dollars in funding but the vibrancy of our economy.Our transportation planning and system are enviable. However, these projects will put Utah and your company on the map.While many of you are from the industry, we need your support to build a broad base coalition and campaign.
- The coalition and our efforts will focus on five objectives, which you can see on the slide.Fund the Unified Plan. Obviously, this will be the emphasis of our efforts working with the legislature and community partners to close the $11.3 billion gap. A copy of which you have in front of you.Also, we will be supporting the Rebuild of our International Airport and the Grand Boulevards in downtown Salt Lake, which are the gateways to our great community.We are also supportive of the vision of the Wasatch Summit â Mountain Transportation System and will work to help make this dream a reality. This project would separate Salt Lake for world-class access to the best snow on earth. Lastly, the Uintah Basin Energy and Transportation Infrastructure holds the keys to billion of dollars in economic development and energy resources, which will fuel our economy and help, fund our schools.
- As Martyâs video highlighted we have begun to mount an aggressive advocacy campaign, which includes:Strategic leadership which supports the vision to achieve our objectives which includes the Bishop, Lane, me and others on our executive committee.Supporting elected and appointed officials Mobilizing top opinion and business leaders Recruiting a broad base of business to join UTC, thatâs why weâre here today.Educational and communications campaignAnd Grassroots and lobbying campaign
- Evidence of these efforts can be seen on the slide, as in just a short period of 55 days, our advocacy efforts have already made a substantial contribution to the public dialogue. We have also been featuring radio spots on eight stations across the Utah about the coalition and will soon have an op-ed championing transportation in our state.
- We have already conducted two pieces of research:Utah Foundation â Policy Options to Address Utahâs Transportation NeedsEDRG â Economic Benefits and Impacts of Utahâs Unified PlanThe Unified Plan showed us the need.The Utah Foundation research shows us many options.The EDRG research shows up the benefits to investment. We also are planning future research, which includes conducting a survey to gauge public support of transportation Investments
- In addition to our advocacy and research initiatives, we have divided up the calendar to highlight each of our objectives. Weâve shown you just some of the events from the past quarter, which we plan to replicate every quarter. Each quarter will feature an event, issue briefing, research and advocacy.This included a briefing by transportation expert Michael Gallis and taken a 2-day excursion to the Uintah Basin.
- The Basin Excursion sought to highlight the needed investments in that regions transportation and energy infrastructure. The excursion was a 2-day trip on June 27-28, with 40 attendees from throughout the business community; I notice a few of those attendees are here today.These events will offer you in-depth experience and information and high-level networking.
- As we move forward, we have a robust agenda planned for the upcoming year to support our advocacy campaign.We will continue to have high-level access to policy and decision makers, for example Mayor Ralph Becker will join our executive and steering committee later this month and Derek Miller, the Governorâs Chief of Staff, will join us in our September meeting. We have also secured an exclusive opportunity at the Airport for coalition members on August 13th. The Salt Lake City Department of Airports Advisory Board has invited The Utah Transportation Coalition to learn about the $1.8 billion rebuild of the Salt Lake City Airport. This will feature a project update from the program manager, Mike Williams, president of Making Projects Work and will be capped at 40 attendees.In addition to our future events we are formulating with our community partners the appropriate policy moving for transportation in the 2014 legislative session. This includes presenting to the Legislatureâs interim transportation committee in September.
- In order to be successful in our efforts, we need your support and invite you to join the coalition. On the slide you will see a summary of some of the benefits to joining the Coalition. You should also have in front of you a more detailed sheet with information regarding joining the coalition. As we look to continue to advocate for Utahâs transportation needs the coalition will continue to grow.
- Our team is available to answer any questions you may have and as our airport event is in a few weeks we would encourage you to not miss out on that opportunity.
