of the world as we know
it

became the nation of
Israel

3. God’s plan of redemption begins
Genesis 12:3 “all peoples
on earth will be blessed
through You.”
“which You have prepared
in the sight of all people, a
light for revelation to the
Gentiles and for glory to
Your people Israel.”
(Luke 2:31–32, NIV84)

4. God’s plan of redemption begins
“The Lord had said to Abram,
“Leave your country, your people
and your father’s household and
go to the land I will show you. “I
will make you into a great nation
and I will bless you; I will make
your name great, and you will be a
blessing. I will bless those who
bless you, and whoever curses
you I will curse; and all peoples on
earth will be blessed through
you.”” (Genesis 12:1–3, NIV84)

5. Abraham’s walk with God
Two things to watch
for Gen. 12-24
Abram made great leaps
of faith and was
obedient.
In times of doubt he tried
to do things his own way
which end badly.

6. The Bible history
Does not gloss over people’s
failures and weaknesses
Just because something is
recorded in the Bible does
not mean that God approves
of it.
Despite their weakness and
failings God still uses people
to carry out His plan.

7. The Bible history
This, then, is the family line of
Perez: Perez was the father of
Hezron, Hezron the father of
Ram, Ram the father of
Amminadab, Amminadab the
father of Nahshon, Nahshon the
father of Salmon, Salmon the
father of Boaz, Boaz the father
of Obed, Obed the father of
Jesse, and Jesse the father of
David. (Ruth 4:13–22, NIV84)

8. God deals with real men and women
Genesis 24-38
God intervenes at critical
moments in people’s lives.
The “heroes” of the faith
(Abraham, Isaac, Jacob)
don’t often call on God nor
ask for help.
They devise their own
dishonest plans and get into
bigger problems.
8
9. Joseph ruler of Egypt: Genesis 39-50
When someone does right and
trusts God He rewards them for
their faithfulness.
Joseph’s honesty and moral
courage result in prison.
God used his sufferings to
bring him into a position of
power.
9
10. Joseph is a type of Christ
God used the sin of others and
innocent suffering to bring
about salvation for Joseph’s
own people and many nations.
Jesus was the innocent victim
of others sins but through His
suffering He gained salvation
for all peoples.
