14. ART OF CRAFTING
SEAMLESS PATTERNS
The next step in the creation of our striking veneers is
immersing these high-quality sheets in soluble organic
dyes to enhance every hue of the wood. This process is
free of chromium and other heavy metals, ensuring
clean and healthy indoor air quality.
DYEING
First step towards creating veneers which seem
mesmerizing to the eyes, is by selecting the best in
wood. The finest logs sourced by Decowood are sliced
with precision and processed into superior quality
thin veneer flitches as per the required dimensions.
PEELING

The composed veneers are then sent to a bonding
machine to produce stunning and unique patterns.
Decowood uses water-based glues which are devoid
of VOCs. Each design stands out depending on the
colour of the glues used in the machine.
BONDING
This is Decowood’s most exclusive step towards
creating breath-taking Engineered Veneers displaying
an array of designs and hues. Every veneer is tailored as
per the requirement and each dyed sheet is mixed and
overlapped (with all fibres in the same direction) for
pressing to create a seamless pattern on each veneer.

15. PRESSING
Bonded sheets are sent for pressing to further beautify
each pattern. Our exquisite templates define flame finish
and/or briar patterns. First, by cold pressing to flatten out
the veneers, followed by hot pressing to end the glue
reaction. After pressing, a compact cube is obtained.

SQUARING AND SHEERING
Excellence is our forte and we never compromise on that.
It is this process that encompasses the highest level of rigor
by Decowood’s master craftsmen. Every log is befittingly
squared off and refined for sheering to produce thin slices
of veneers to elevate the look and feel of each veneer.

Taking us one step closer towards completing our
final masterpiece, is the sheeting process. To create
premium sheets of veneers, the thin slices of veneers are
further processed and pasted on ply to achieve a high
character product.

thickness, moisture content, to the type of core material

Veneer Laminates are produced by pressing
veneers on special kraft paper. These veneers
can be bent into a curve of 8cm radius and
can be rolled and glued onto any shape of

Easy steps to polish veneers
Cleaning
Decowood begins the polishing process with cleaning of the unfinished veneers. To begin with,
a dampen cotton or microfiber cloth is wrung out to remove extra water. Wood veneers are then
meticulously wiped in the direction of wood grain to remove any light dust, debris, or residue. To
finish off, the veneers are wiped with dry cotton or microfiber cloth.
Sanding
To attain a smooth and soft to touch surface of the veneer, Decowood uses high-quality sand paper.
Sanding on the veneer surface is done with light pressure to ensure the grains do not get removed.
Wood fillers are used to further smoothen the surface, layer by layer, till the characteristic smooth
surface is achieved.
Coating
The last step to achieve the unforgettable finish is coating the veneer to enhance its sheen by using:
Epoxy – A highly durable coating that resists normal wear and dries quickly. It helps in absorbing the
oil content in wood and stops it from reaching the top coat.
Base Coat (Sealer) – It has excellent sheen retention and is less yellowing as compared to the usual
coatings. It has high resistance to scratches, stains, and heat.
Top Coat – The final coat on the veneer, as per the required type of finish. We can either apply gloss
for a shiny surface or matte for a subtle surface.

Tips for best results
- Apply clear sealer and top coat from the same
brand only through spraying. Sealer can protect it
from all kinds of dust particles during storage.
- Sanding is recommended for minor veneer
chipping to smoothen the surface, replicating the
natural phenomenon.
- Store in dry & clean enclosures to prevent exposure
to excessive humidity and dust as these can
damage the veneers.
- Avoid the use of chalk powder as it could either
result in yellowing or penetration, which may be
visible after application of the wood finish.
- Greenlam Industries Limited warrants that all its
products are free from manufacturing defects and
perfectly fit for use under normal conditions. In
case of any claims the liability of the company is
however limited to the cost of the product only.
Types of Polishes
There are five kinds of polishes recommended for
veneers based on the use (interior/exterior) and
application (horizontal/vertical) of the veneer.
These are mentioned below.
Melamine Finish
The ease of application and availability makes this
the most popular finish for a veneer.
- It can be used for interior and exterior applications
- Available in Gloss and Matte
- It can be applied using a brush or a roller
Polyurethane Finish
Commonly known as P.U. finish, Polyurethane is
extremely sought-after and is easily available
as well.
- It can be used for interior and exterior applications
- Thicker layer of this polish gives better protection
to the veneer surface
- Has higher water resistance
- Post application, it smells pungent for some time
- Available in Gloss and Matte, it can also be tinted
for special effects
- Should be applied using spray-on
Acrylic Finish
One of the latest entrants in the market, Acrylic
Finish is the choicest selection for the discerning
few because of being the most premium wood
finishing solution.
- Best suited for interior use and is recommended
for horizontal surfaces as well
- It is a fast drying finish as compared to other
alternatives
- It can be easily cleaned up with soap and water
- Available only in Gloss, this finish results in a very
thick top layer that gives the appearance of
placing a glass/acrylic sheet on top of the veneer
- Should be applied using spray-on
UV Coating
UV coatings are known for their superior
durability as well as chemical and stain
resistance, while bringing out the beauty of the
wood for Industrial use.
- It gives faster production rates
- Comparatively, is faster in application and drying
- Effective and low labor costs
- Significant reduction or the complete elimination
of VOCs
- A higher quality finished product

Water-Based Coatings
