What did you think of the
video?
Can you relate to her
concerns and frustrations?
If so, how?
Discuss what is means to be
a hypocrite?
Basically, to be a hypocrite is
to say one thing and do
another. So, insât safe to say
that everyone is a hypocrite in
one way or another. Letâs
think for a minute of some
areas in our lives that are
inconsistent with what we say
we believe.
So, is the church the only
place where they can be
found?
Is there a higher expectation
for people who go to church?
If so, why? Is that really fair?
Have you ever had a
bad experience with
people in the church?
Did you resolve it?
If so, how? If not,
why not?
Has hypocrisy in
the church ever
made you feel like
giving up? If so, how did
you deal with it?
Is it possible to separate the
behavior of a few people from
that of the whole church?
If so, what are some tips that
others may be helpful?
Have you ever been afraid to
invite a friend to church for
fear of this kind of response?
What would you say to a
friend if they responded to
your invitation like this young
lady?
What does the Bible say?
Revelation 3:15Â 'I know your
deeds, that you are neither
cold nor hot; I wish that you
were cold or hot. 16Â 'So
because you are lukewarm,
and neither hot nor cold, I will
spit you out of My mouth.â
Sounds to me like this young
lady and God have something
in common. They both cannot
stand hypocrisy.
Mark 7:6 - He replied, "Isaiah
was right when he prophesied
about you hypocrites; as it is
written: "'These people honor
me with their lips, but their
hearts are far from me.â

Matthew 23:27
"Woe to you, teachers of the law
and Pharisees, you hypocrites!
You are like whitewashed tombs,
which look beautiful on the outside
but on the inside are full of dead
men's bones and everything
unclean.â

In the three passages
below what were the
motives for their good
deeds?
Matthew 6:2 - âSo when you give to the needy,
do not announce it with trumpets, as the
hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the
streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you,
they have received their reward in full.
Matthew 6:5 - âAnd when you pray, do not be
like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing
in the synagogues and on the street corners to be
seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have
received their reward in full.
Matthew 6:16 - âWhen you fast, do not look
somber as the hypocrites do, for they disïŹgure
their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly
I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
What is being described
as hypocritical in the
passage below?
Mark 7:6 - He replied, âIsaiah was right when he
prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
âââThese people honor me with their lips, but their
hearts are far from me.â
What do you think God desires?
Revelation 3:15`I know your deeds, that you are
neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or
hot. 16`So because you are lukewarm, and
neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My
mouth.â
