•Basic principle of this mechanism is
conversion of mechanical energy into electrical
energy.
•The pressure exerted by the vehicles on the
road is used to rotate the shaft of dc generator.
For this we use
• A pressure compression mechanism
• Gear and chain sprocket arrangement and
• DC generator

Sprocket
The main purpose of the sprocket wheel is that when the
pedal moves in opposite direction to get back to its original
position , the shaft would rotate in the forward direction
only.
Spur gears
Driver Driven
It is a positive transmission device with definite velocity ratio. Its volute
profile is preferred for adjusting some linear misalignment. It should
have high wear and tear, shock absorbing capacity. It can transmit a
motion at very low velocity. We have used 6 spur gears of different sizes
to get high velocity ratio.
Gear Ratio
It is the ratio of number of revolutions of
driver gear to the driven gear(N1&N2)
Or it is the ratio of number of teethes
of driven gear to the driver gear(T2&T1)
Example:
If T1= 60 & T2=30
The DRIVEN gear makes TWO rotations for every ONE rotation of the Driving Gear
N1 30

SHAFT WITH GEAR
The shaft is the axle of the gear, It is a rotating element, which is used to transmit the
power from one place to another place. It supports the rotating elements like gears
and flywheels.
BEARINGS
It is an element, which supports machinery. It permits relative motion between the
contacting surfaces while carrying the loads. They reduce the friction and transmit
the motion effectively.
SPRING
It is defined as an elastic body whose function is to distort when loaded and to
recover its original shape when the load is removed. It cushions, absorbs or controls
energy either due to shocks or due to vibrations.
DC GENERATOR
A DC Generator is a rotating machine which converts mechanical energy into
electrical energy. It works on the principle of electromagnetic induction.
According to Faraday’s law, whenever a conductor cuts magnetic lines of flux, a
dynamic emf is induced in the conductor. This emf causes a current flow if the
circuit is closed. The essential requirements of a dc generator are
A magnetic field
Conductors or coils
Relative motion between the magnetic field and the conductor

COMPONENTS WITH SPECIFICATION
Design :
Model
Applying weight on the pressure lever, the lever travels
a distance of 0.15 meter (m) and the total time taken to
travel this distance is 1 second(s)
By one stroke sprocket gear moves four teeth from its
original position.
Calculations
ADVANTAGES
•Generation of power without polluting the
environment.
•Simple construction, mature technology and easy
maintenance.
•No fuel transportation required.
•No consumption of any fossil fuel which is non-
renewable source of energy.
•No external source is needed for power generation.
LIMITATIONS
•Mechanical moving parts is high and therefore there
are very large frictional losses and therefore require more
maintenance,
•Initial cost of this arrangement is very high.
•The overall efficiency is quite low as compared to other
techniques.
•Difficult to place the system in the road.
•It is effectively work only in busy roads.
APPLICATIONS
Application can be classified into two according to the type
of usage as:
1) Direct use &
2) Indirect use
In direct use the generated electric power is used without
storing it in any battery. Therefore the output will be
available only when a vehicle pass over the system.
Example:
• Speed monitoring system
In indirect use, the electricity produced is stored in a
battery. This power can be used in many places after using
the inverter, which enhances in the voltage from 12 volts to
230 volts. This power can be used in the following:
•Street Lights.
•Road Signals.
•Sign boards on the roads.
•Lighting Of the bus stops.
•Lighting of the check post on the highways etc.
Speed monitoring system
 The above explained mechanism can also be used as
a speed monitoring system with slight changes.
 The output voltage of the generator depends on the
speed of rotation
 So for each speed level there will be a corresponding
voltage output
 This output can be processed and displayed
For example:
Vehicle moves at a speed of 40 km/s piston moves the distance in 1 second
Gets a speed of 1000 rpm 10v output
Vehicle moves at a speed of 50 km/s piston moves the distance in .9 second
Gets a speed of 1100 rpm 12v output
Application in 4 way traffic junction
BATTERY
Here a number of power humps are used
Separate power humps are provided on each of the 4
ways
The output of all of them is connected to a single battery
In four way junction vehicle will pass through any one of
the path
Hence get a continues input to the battery
The output can be used to light up the signal system itself

  • 3. •Basic principle of this mechanism is conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy. •The pressure exerted by the vehicles on the road is used to rotate the shaft of dc generator. For this we use • A pressure compression mechanism • Gear and chain sprocket arrangement and • DC generator

  • 6. Sprocket The main purpose of the sprocket wheel is that when the pedal moves in opposite direction to get back to its original position , the shaft would rotate in the forward direction only.
  • 7. Spur gears Driver Driven It is a positive transmission device with definite velocity ratio. Its volute profile is preferred for adjusting some linear misalignment. It should have high wear and tear, shock absorbing capacity. It can transmit a motion at very low velocity. We have used 6 spur gears of different sizes to get high velocity ratio.
  • 8. Gear Ratio It is the ratio of number of revolutions of driver gear to the driven gear(N1&N2) Or it is the ratio of number of teethes of driven gear to the driver gear(T2&T1) Example: If T1= 60 & T2=30 The DRIVEN gear makes TWO rotations for every ONE rotation of the Driving Gear N1 30 N2 60 = = 1 2
  • 9. SHAFT WITH GEAR The shaft is the axle of the gear, It is a rotating element, which is used to transmit the power from one place to another place. It supports the rotating elements like gears and flywheels. BEARINGS It is an element, which supports machinery. It permits relative motion between the contacting surfaces while carrying the loads. They reduce the friction and transmit the motion effectively.
  • 10. SPRING It is defined as an elastic body whose function is to distort when loaded and to recover its original shape when the load is removed. It cushions, absorbs or controls energy either due to shocks or due to vibrations.
  • 11. DC GENERATOR A DC Generator is a rotating machine which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. It works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. According to Faraday’s law, whenever a conductor cuts magnetic lines of flux, a dynamic emf is induced in the conductor. This emf causes a current flow if the circuit is closed. The essential requirements of a dc generator are A magnetic field Conductors or coils Relative motion between the magnetic field and the conductor

  • 20. ADVANTAGES •Generation of power without polluting the environment. •Simple construction, mature technology and easy maintenance. •No fuel transportation required. •No consumption of any fossil fuel which is non- renewable source of energy. •No external source is needed for power generation.

LIMITATIONS •Mechanical moving parts is high and therefore there are very large frictional losses and therefore require more maintenance, •Initial cost of this arrangement is very high. •The overall efficiency is quite low as compared to other techniques. •Difficult to place the system in the road. •It is effectively work only in busy roads.

APPLICATIONS Application can be classified into two according to the type of usage as: 1) Direct use & 2) Indirect use In direct use the generated electric power is used without storing it in any battery. Therefore the output will be available only when a vehicle pass over the system. Example: • Speed monitoring system
  • 23. In indirect use, the electricity produced is stored in a battery. This power can be used in many places after using the inverter, which enhances in the voltage from 12 volts to 230 volts. This power can be used in the following: •Street Lights. •Road Signals. •Sign boards on the roads. •Lighting Of the bus stops. •Lighting of the check post on the highways etc.

Speed monitoring system  The above explained mechanism can also be used as a speed monitoring system with slight changes.  The output voltage of the generator depends on the speed of rotation  So for each speed level there will be a corresponding voltage output  This output can be processed and displayed
  • 25. For example: Vehicle moves at a speed of 40 km/s piston moves the distance in 1 second Gets a speed of 1000 rpm 10v output Vehicle moves at a speed of 50 km/s piston moves the distance in .9 second Gets a speed of 1100 rpm 12v output
  • 26. Application in 4 way traffic junction BATTERY
  • 27. Here a number of power humps are used Separate power humps are provided on each of the 4 ways The output of all of them is connected to a single battery In four way junction vehicle will pass through any one of the path Hence get a continues input to the battery The output can be used to light up the signal system itself
