5. • Salt implies association, not participation
(John 17:15-16)
– Be separate: come out, touch not (2 Cor 6:14-18)
– “The world has been crucified to me” (Gal 6:14)
– “Seek the things where Christ is” (Col 3:1-3)
– “Proclaim the excellencies of Him” (1 Pet 2:9)
6. • Unique (John 17:16-17)
They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth
• Preserving (Gen 19)
• Adding flavor (Rev 3:16)

• Working quietly but effectively (1 Pet 2:11-12)
Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among
the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
• Creating a thirst (John 4:13-14; Rev 22:17)
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give
them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to
eternal life.”
