- When I was selected to pitch here at the Unconference, I initially started looking like this (click) , but after few minutes of thinking about how I was going to do this presentation, I ended up looking like this (click). Now if you are wondering why, let me preface this presentation by saying the co-founders of OrionVM are a bunch of nerds. We eat, sleep and talk tech everyday, which is great when we are presenting to other tech people, but makes it hard to explain what we do to the general population. (click) So, what do we do? OrionVM is a startup Cloud Computing provider founded in 2010. We have built this company from the ground up with the goal of being one of the fastest cloud computing providers in Australia. A year later and through plenty of hard times, we have done just that.

- So, many of you are wondering what Cloud Computing is. Cloud computing is a shift towards using on demand infrastructure, on a pay as you go basis. We all know that running a startup is no easy feat. The use of cloud computing makes it that slightest bit easier. No longer do you need to spend large amounts of money on IT hardware to run your application. Some common examples you may be familiar with are Gmail and Amazon Web Services.
- So why Cloud? In the past, a company would need to invest large amounts of cash to obtain the IT hardware required to run their business. The move towards cloud computing removes this barrier (click) , allowing the smallest of companies to leverage the benefits of IT platforms traditionally only available to large enterprise.
- OrionVM was founded by Joseph , Alex and myself. Joseph is our systems architect who designs the majority of the OrionVM platform. Alex is our backend developer who has written the majority of the backend systems. I spend the majority of my time doing business development, as well as running our networks.

- Now many of you may think that it is a pretty bold claim that OrionVM have built one of the fastest cloud computing platforms for the least amount of money, but here is the proof. Through the use of our own in house architecture design, we have built a completely horizontally scaling platform that is multiple times faster than our competitors. This is something we are extremely proud of, but this is only the beginning.
