The document summarizes Jesus' interaction with Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. It describes how Lazarus became sick and died, despite the sisters asking Jesus for help. When Jesus arrives in Bethany four days later, he weeps with Mary and Martha over the death of Lazarus. Jesus then goes to Lazarus' tomb and calls him to come out, resurrecting him from the dead. It emphasizes that Jesus is "the resurrection and the life" and that through belief in him, we can have eternal life.
3. A man named Lazarus was sick. He lived in Bethany with
his sisters, Mary and Martha. This is the Mary who later
poured the expensive perfume on the Lord’s feet and wiped
them with her hair. Her brother, Lazarus, was sick.
4. So the two sisters sent a message to Jesus telling him,
“Lord, your dear friend is very sick.” . . .
So although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus,
he stayed where he was for the next two days . . .
5. When Jesus arrived at Bethany, he was told that Lazarus
had already been in his grave for four days.
(John 11:1-3, 5-6, 17 – New Living Translation)
7. So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went
and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house.
Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my
brother would not have died.” (John 11:20-21)
8. Now when Mary came to where Jesus was, she fell at his
feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother
would not have died.” (John 11:32)
9. Jesus had just wept. So the Jews said,
“See how he loved him!” But some of them said,
“Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man
also have kept this man from dying?” (John 11:36-37)
14. Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.”
“Yes,” Martha said, “he will rise when everyone else rises,
at the last day.” Jesus told her,
“I am the resurrection and the life.
15. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after
dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me
will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”
(John 11:23-26 – New Living Translation)
18. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that
whoever believes in him should not perish
but have eternal life.
(John 3:16 – English Standard Version)
26. Jesus arrived at the tomb, a cave with a stone rolled
across its entrance. “Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them.
But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has
been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.”
27. Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see
God’s glory if you believe?” So they rolled the stone aside.
Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank
you for hearing me. You always hear me, but I said it out
loud for the sake of all these people standing here,
so that they will believe you sent me.”
28. Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!”
And the dead man came out, his hands and feet
bound in grave clothes, his face wrapped in a cloth.
Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him go!”
(John 11: 38-44 – New Living Translation)
29. Because jesus is the resurrection
and the life, we can be truly free
30. Therefore, if the Son makes you free,
you really will be free.
(John 8:36 – Common English Bible)
41. So NOW you need to rethink everything and turn to God
so your sins will be forgiven and a new day can dawn,
days of refreshing times flowing from the Lord.
(Acts 3:19 – Message)
