Dr. Joseph (Yossi) Vardi is a co-chair of DLD. With 4 years experience of co-founding,
leading and participating in building over 60 high-tech companies, he is one of Israel’s
early entrepreneurs. Yossi co-pioneered instant messaging as the founding investor and
the former Chairman of Mirabilis Ltd., the creator of the highly popular instant messaging
program ICQ now owned by AOL.

Eytan Avriel

Eytan Avriel is a founder of TheMarker, a leading and influential business media provider
i n Israel. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of TheMarker Magazine and as one
of the group’s leading op-ed columnist. Eytan is a frequent guest at many of Israel’s
TV and Radio news programs where he comments on business, economic and social
issues. Eytan led or co-led the launches of TheMarker website in 2000, TheMarker
F inance trading information system (2000), TheMarker Magazine (2001), TheMarker
Daily Newspaper (2005), TheMarkerCafé Social Network (2006), TheMarker TV, and
numerous other products.
Eytan was business editor and business manager at Reuters Plc, a leading international
news and financial data provider. He consulted clients on investment banking, financial
IR/PR, and managed a financial information platform that he developed and launched
and later sold. Eytan holds a BSc in business and Biology and an MBA, both from
the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. In 2004, Eytan initiated and led a SEC-sponsored
c ommission to set an ethical code for financial websites. In 2015 he attended the
Singularity University. He occasionally lectures at the Tel Aviv University, the Hebrew
University, the IDC center in Hertzelia and other forums.

Noy Barak is a neuroscientist and multi-disciplinary entrepreneur. She holds an M.Sc.
I n Neuroscience from the Weizmann Institute, with specialization in developmental
disorders and active sensing research.
Noy serves as a technology evangelist at Neurosteer. Neurosteer develops a platform

Menny Barzilay is a cyber security strategist and esteemed public speaker. A former
CISO in the Israeli Defense Forces, Barzilay (Capt. (Res)) is now the head of the IT Audit
department at Bank Hapoalim Group (Based in Israel) and the chairman of the student
board audit committee at the Open University.
An evangelist of innovation, Barzilay meets and advises many startups companies

the USA’s Apollo and an unmanned Soviet mission).

European financial markets.

in 1969 and his MA in Economics in 1973, both from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem,
Israel. Mr. Brodet has been Bank Leumi’s Chairman of the Board since 2010.
David Brodet has served as chairman of many government and public committees
dealing with various issues of the national economy: the defense budget, ownership
of ‫״‬real entities‫״‬ by banks, dual listing of shares, the postal industry, capital markets,
options to the public, criteria for construction of public buildings, medical malpractice,
the position of the National Insurance Institute, flour milling industry. He is also active in

Phil Chen is an explorer and technology pilgrim. As head of HTC’s business and
corporate development, Phil has led investments into KKBox (#1 music service in Asia),
Soundhound, Magnet and the acquisition of Beats electronics. Most recently, Phil
founded the HTC Vive VR HMD group and is pioneering a VR seed fund called Presence
capital to catalyze the VR/AR industry. Prior to HTC, Phil was VP of Product for the first
patented dual-screen E-Ink to LCD Alex eReader, which was later licensed to the first
Barnes & Noble Nook. He also founded the Glo Bible, an award winning interactive media
Bible that presents scripture in 3D virtual explorations with contextual visuals. Before his
corporate endeavors, Phil served as a missionary in Afghanistan, Ghana, and China and

Maayan is a maker, interaction designer and the founder of EyeCanTouch, a gaming
platform that enables children with motor and speech disabilities to play with tangible
toys using their eyes only.
Maayan comes from a rich background of transmedia storytelling and physical
computing. She is passionate about creating transformative user experiences that
connect people and bridge between digital and physical worlds. She spent the past 12
years in Canada, hacking, designing and creating interactive projects while working with
the country's top digital production houses.
She has worked in robotics, wearable tech and multitouch interfaces. She was named
as one of Canada’s "10 to Watch" by Bell Global Media and has received a multiple
awards for her work.
Maayan has a BAA in Digital Media from Ryerson University and an MDes in Digital
Futures from OCAD University in Toronto. When she is not hacking something, you’ll find

Gary Coover is currently working to drive innovation in Samsung through the development
of new start-ups in the Samsung Accelerator. As the Global Head of Operations, Gary
has helped architect, launch and scale the Samsung Accelerator from concept to reality
in SF and NY. Gary's Accelerator Ops team helps deliver the Samsung unfair advantage
to Accelerator startups by providing strategic, biz dev and operational support. Prior
to helping launch the Accelerator, Gary spent three years in Samsung's South Korean
headquarters, first as an internal consultant in the Global Strategy Group and later in
business development. In both roles, he worked to drive strategic initiatives and facilitate
cross-platform media and content partnerships across Samsung devices, including
mobile, tablet and Smart TVs. Before heading to Korea to join Samsung, Gary earned
his MBA from UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. While at Haas, he co-founded
Modify Watches, a wrist-watch company that specializes in customizable, modular
watches (www.modifywatches.com). Prior to Berkeley, he spent almost four years in
consulting at Navigant Consulting. Gary is passionate about the innovation/incubation

Edouard Cukierman

Mr. Edouard Cukierman is the Founder and Managing Partner of Catalyst Investments and
serves as the Chairman of Cukierman & Co. Investment House. Since its establishment
in 1993, Cukierman & Co. Investment House advised in more than € 4 billion worth of
corporate finance transactions.
Prior to establishing and managing Catalyst Investments in 2000, Edouard Cukierman
served as Chairman of BOS (NASDAQ: BOSC). Mr. Cukierman was also the President
and CEO of Astra Technological Investments, a Venture Capital Fund established in
1993, which was the first Israeli company to go public in Continental Europe.
Edouard Cukierman is the Founder of the Go4Israel annual conference.
Today, Edouard Cukierman serves as a board member of Lamina Technologies which
is based in Switzerland, Tufin technologies, Dori Media Group as well as Harmon.ie in
Israel. Edouard Cukierman is the Chairman of the European Committee of the "High-
Tech Industry Association" in Israel since May 2011.
Mr. Cukierman serves as the Vice President of the Fondation France Israël. He is a
board member of "Alliance Israelite Universelle en Israel" and a board member of Sar-El
(Association that brings volunteers from across the world to the IDF in Israel).

Íñigo de la Serna Hernáiz was born on 10 January 1971.
He got a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Cantabria, specialized
in Hydraulics, Oceanography and Environment.
He was elected Mayor of the city of Santander in 2007, being Popular Party’s candidate,
and re-elected in municipal elections in 2011 and 2015.
We had worked in private industry as head of the hydraulics department at the
engineering company APIA XXI, from 1995 to 1999.
Later, he was appointed as director of the office of Cantabria’s regional Minister of
Environment, from 1999 to 2003.
He has been Santander’s city councillor of Environment, Water and Beaches during the
term in office 2003-2007.
He has been regional deputy during his first term in office as Santander’s Mayor, from
2007 to 2011, and he continues being regional deputy during current term in office 2015-
2019.
He is a member of the Executive Committee of Cantabria region‘s Popular Party.
Currently, he is president of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces
(FEMP).
He also presides over the Spanish Smart Cities Network.
He is currently co-president of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions
(CEMR) of which he will be president from December on, and he is member of the
Network Global Agenda Councils and the Regional Committee of the World Economic
Forum.

Rob Dembitz is the Corporate Development Director of Lions Festivals. He sits on the
Executive Team and is responsible for the strategic growth of the business.
Rob began his career at M&C Saatchi in their new media team, eMCSaatchi, before
taking a different path into financial services. After studying for a MBA at London
Business School, he joined GI Partners, a private equity firm and then moved to join the
Terra Firma restructuring team at EMI.
Rob has most recently led the development and launch of both Lions Health and also
Lions Innovation, for which he is also acting as Festival Director.

Nusrat is executive producer of the acclaimed Rebel Music documentary series and
Intel’s The Music Experiment, an award winning live music platform. He is creator and

fashion as well as "Madly", a feature-length anthology of short films about love by six
visionary international directors including Mia Wasikowska, Gael Garcia Bernal and

Daniel Eilemberg is a journalist, producer and new media entrepreneur with business

From 1972 to 1977 Mr Kamp worked for two wholesalers. Following his training

he was a member of Gelderland provincial council, representing the People’s Party for
Freedom and Democracy (VVD). In 1994 Mr Kamp became a member of the House
of Representatives, also for the VVD. The subjects he covered included asylum and
immigration policy, integration, and social affairs and employment.
From 22 July 2002, Mr Kamp was Minister of Housing, Spatial Planning and the
Environment in the first Balkenende government. He also took over the portfolio of
Minister of Defence on 12 December 2002. He was Minister of Defence in the second
and third Balkenende governments (27 May 2003-22 February 2007).
From 30 November 2006 to 18 December 2008 Mr Kamp returned to the House of
Representatives, where he was the VVD’s spokesperson on immigration and integration
policy. On 1 January 2009 he was appointed Commissioner for Bonaire, St Eustatius
and Saba.
On 14 October 2010 Henk Kamp was appointed Minister of Social Affairs and
Employment in the Rutte-Verhagen government.

President Peretz Lavie received his formal training in Sleep research and Sleep medicine
at the University of Florida and at the University of California San Diego, and was a
visiting professor at Harvard University in Boston. In 1975 he joined the Faculty of
Medicine at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, where he founded the Sleep
Research Laboratory and the Center for Sleep Medicine. He was the Dean of Medicine
(1993-1999) and Vice President for Resource Development and External Relations
(2001-2008) and in 2009 was elected for a 4-year term as the President of the Technion
and was re-elected for 4 more years.
Professor Peretz Lavie is considered one of the founders of sleep medicine. He
published more than 400 scientific articles and eight books in the field of sleep research
and sleep disorders. His book "The Enchanted World of Sleep" has been translated
into 15 languages. His research has won many prizes, including the Elkeles Prize from
the Keren Kayemet LeIsrael for the best medical scientist (2001), the University of Pisa
Sleep Award to Best Sleep Researcher in Europe (2004), the American Society of Sleep
Research William Gruen Prize for innovative research (2006), and the EMET prize in
medicine (2006), the most prestigious prize for academic achievements in Israel. He was
the founder and co-founder of 5 companies that develop and produce medical devices
for sleep medicine and cardiology and provide diagnostic services.

Lemelshtrich Latar papers pioneering the iPhone and iPad and Samsung Screen Feedback Communications

The paper "Screen Feedback From Home Terminals" published in "Talking Back: Citizen Feedback And Cable
technology" De Sola Pool ,MIT Press 1973 was the first pioneering paper calling for the use of the entire screen
of the communications devices by a hand touch for feedback in the areas of politics, social activities, education
and services . Several technologies available at the time for screen feedback were outlined. These concepts are
now being employed by companies like Apple, Samsung and others. The 1973 paper provides the guidelines
for using the entire screen for feedback outlining the human ergonomic advantages while analyzing the political
and economic contexts. One of the advantages described in the paper of the screen feedback is that it allows
the projections of the entire key boards on the screen while these being adapted to the specific users. It allows
groups not fluent in reading texts to project icons or pictures for communications. The political and commercial
advantages were discussed.
The paper Two Way Communications; Political and Design Analysis of a Home Terminal, Sage Research Papers in
Social Sciences, Series 90-011 Vol 2, 1974 discusses the political implications of the design features of a two way

SIGIR,WWW and WSDM conferences. Yoelle currently serves as Vice Chair of the SIGIR
Executive committee and was recently elected to IW3C2, the organization that manages
the WWW conference series. Yoelle is a member of the Board of Governors of the
Technion, chairing its Student Affairs Committee, as well as a member of the Technion
Management Council. She was inducted as an ACM Fellow in 2013.

Emmanuel Macron was born in December 1977 in Amiens. He is a haut fonctionnaire
(senior public official) specialising in economic affairs.
He studied philosophy and was Paul Ricœur’s assistant for two years before attending
the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA) from where he graduated in 2004.
Emmanuel Macron then joined the Inspectorate General of Finance (IGF) and, in
2007, became expert adviser to the head of department. In this capacity, he served
as rapporteur for the Commission pour la libération de la croissance française (French
Commission on Economic Growth), chaired by Jacques Attali.
He then went to work in the banking industry. In 2011, he was involved in François
Hollande’s campaign for the socialist party’s presidential primary and, subsequently,
in the presidential campaign itself. During the latter campaign, he was tasked with
coordinating a group of experts and with drawing up the candidate’s economic manifesto.
In May 2012, he took up the position of Deputy Secretary General of the President’s
Private Office with particular responsibility for monitoring strategy and economic affairs,
and for overseeing fiscal, financial, tax and sector-based issues.
On 26 August 2014, Emmanuel Macron was appointed Minister for the Economy,
Industry and Digital Affairs in the government headed up by Manuel Valls. His mandate
is to ensure France’s economic recovery.

Beate Merk was born in August 1957 in Nordhorn (Germany). She is Bavarian State
Minister of European Affairs and International Relations in the Bavarian State Chancellery
and in this function responsible within the Bavarian State Government for coordinating
the Bavarian policies within the European Union and worldwide.
Beate Merk studied law and political science in Munich and holds a doctorate degree in
law from the University of Wuerzburg (Germany). She began her professional career as

of the Bavarian State Administration.
In 1995 she was elected Mayor of her home town Neu-Ulm. In this capacity, she served

bank).
In 2003, she was appointed Bavarian State Minister of Justice and served in this function

and member of the executive committee of her party. Since 2009, she is chairwoman of
the Frauen-Union (women’s organization of the CSU) of the district of Swabia.
Beate Merk is member of the Bavarian State Parliament (Landtag) and member of the
council of the county of Neu-Ulm. She is Honorary Senator of Neu-Ulm University of

He was the Dean of Medicine (1993-1999) and Vice President for Resource Development and External Relations (2001-2008) and in 2009 was elected for a 4-year term as the President of the Technion and was re-elected for 4 more years. Professor Peretz Lavie is considered one of the founders of sleep medicine. He published more than 400 scientific articles and eight books in the field of sleep research and sleep disorders. His book "The Enchanted World of Sleep" has been translated into 15 languages. His research has won many prizes, including the Elkeles Prize from the Keren Kayemet LeIsrael for the best medical scientist (2001), the University of Pisa Sleep Award to Best Sleep Researcher in Europe (2004), the American Society of Sleep Research William Gruen Prize for innovative research (2006), and the EMET prize in medicine (2006), the most prestigious prize for academic achievements in Israel. Lemelshtrich Latar papers pioneering the iPhone and iPad and Samsung Screen Feedback Communications Devices: The paper "Screen Feedback From Home Terminals" published in "Talking Back: Citizen Feedback And Cable technology" De Sola Pool ,MIT Press 1973 was the first pioneering paper calling for the use of the entire screen of the communications devices by a hand touch for feedback in the areas of politics, social activities, education and services . Several technologies available at the time for screen feedback were outlined. These concepts are now being employed by companies like Apple, Samsung and others. The 1973 paper provides the guidelines for using the entire screen for feedback outlining the human ergonomic advantages while analyzing the political and economic contexts. One of the advantages described in the paper of the screen feedback is that it allows the projections of the entire key boards on the screen while these being adapted to the specific users. It allows groups not fluent in reading texts to project icons or pictures for communications. The political and commercial advantages were discussed. The paper Two Way Communications; Political and Design Analysis of a Home Terminal, Sage Research Papers in Social Sciences, Series 90-011 Vol 2, 1974 discusses the political implications of the design features of a two way communications process and describes a first ever experiment in designing feedback responses for a two way public participation in a discussion on Television. 139
