2. What If I tell you, you get ₹8 lakhs crores because of a piece of rock how will you feel?
And not just you, What if everyone on the planet will gets ₹8 lakhs crores.
Everyone on earth be like:
3. This is not a theory This is the truth
Because our solar system is filled with a treasure that is waiting for us
So, what we are talking about?
Waiting for us to develop the technology and make that treasure ours
4. WHAT IS ASTEROID?
WE'RE TALKING ABOUT ASTEROIDS MINING.
4.6 billion years ago when our solar system was forming Earth, Mars, Mercury, all
didn't exist.
There were only swirling gas clouds because of gravity, planets formed from these
gas clouds.
Our solar system has 8 planets and many dwarf planets like Pluto but even after
the process of planet formation there was a lot of matter still left which was
converted into small celestial bodies.
Estimates say that in just our solar system there are more than 800 thousand
asteroids Majority of the asteroids can be found in the Asteroid belt between
Mars and Jupiter
5. C-TYPE
TYPES OF ASTEROID?
There are 3 types of asteroids
The C-type (chondrite) asteroids are most common. They probably consist of clay
and silicate rocks, and are dark in appearance. They are among the most ancient
objects in the solar system.
S-TYPE
The S-types ("stony") are made up of silicate materials and nickel-iron.
M-TYPE
The M-types are metallic (nickel-iron). The asteroids' compositional differences are
related to how far from the Sun they formed. Some experienced high temperatures
after they formed and partly melted, with iron sinking to the center and forcing
basaltic (volcanic) lava to the surface.
6. This is a football ground. This is an asteroid with same
size of ground.
One asteroid holds up to 4,000 kgs of platinum.
It is believed that all the asteroids between Mars & Jupiter contain so much material
that if we were to extract it all, it would be valued at $70 quintillion, That is 1
followed by 18 zeroes.
1000000000000000000
7. THE NEED FOR ASTEROID MINING
Neil DeGrasse Tyson is the world's most popular Astro physicist. He says
The world's first trillionaire will be the one who will start mining asteroids.
ASTEROID MINING IS OUR FUTURE
There are main reasons for this.
The resources on earth are limited . We need to mine below ground for these
resources Mining causes a lot of pollution. This pollutes air, water, land. It causes
deforestation
These resources are available in space and we can access them technically, this is
possible.
9. Let us take an example of 16 Psyche, The
diameter of this is 226kms.It is 16 times smaller
than our moon.
Asteroid mining feels like a science fiction
technology But NASA began research on this from
1970s
In fact, In 2015, President Barack Obama passed a
law allowing US citizens to own celestial bodies
So technically , space colonization has already
begun.
The idea is simple, If we develop the technology
We can technically do space mining
10. HOW WILL ASTEROID MINING HAPPEN?
STEP-3
CHOOSING AN ASTEROID
STEP-1 STEP-2
MINING BEGINS SENDING METAL TO EARTH
11. STEP-1 CHOOSING AN ASTEROID
Most asteroids orbit the sun between Mars and Jupiter in the asteroid
belt. But some of them sometimes pass close to Earth.
make sure asteroid that it’s big enough. The ideal size is probably a
couple hundred meters across, something maybe the size of a city
block.
Asteroids are really the low hanging fruit of the solar system.
They might be physically far away most of the time , but the amount of
energy that it takes to get to an asteroid is a lot less than it is to land
on the Moon or Mars. And that’s because asteroids have very little of
their own gravity which means you don’t have to spend a lot of energy
to land on the surface, and you don’t have to spend a lot of energy to
back get off the surface.
12. STEP-2 MINING BEGINS
You can’t just use a pickaxe on an asteroid because its gravity is
so tiny that your gold would float away.
different elements melt at different temperatures, so
miners can heat them up, and then separate them
using gigantic mirrors to concentrate sunlight. You
apply heat, you evaporate the material, and in the
process of doing that you can separate the stuff you
don't want, and concentrate the things that you do
want, and condense them back out.
13. STEP-3 SENDING METAL TO EARTH
small pieces of the asteroid are captured in an ice enclosure and then
they are transported back to earth
Also, we can find helium in these asteroid which can work as rocket
fuel. That means an asteroid can act as a refueling station for our
rockets
14.
15. FACTS
Estimates that the rocket fuel necessary to go and bring back one
kilogram of platinum from an asteroid would release 150 kilograms of
CO2. On the other hand terrestrial mining would generate 40,000 kilos
of CO2.Mining asteroids could be hundreds of times more sustainable.
University of New South Wales offers course on asteroid mining.
Japan’s Hayabusa2 mission already started work on this direction
16. CONCLUSION
India can send rocket to mars which cost less than movie like gravity
and the Martian. We can also develop technology for space mining.
Why not we are becoming first Indian company to give little solution
to this futuristic market.
